I have just fitted a sender to my recently acquired spare expansion tank. As there is always interest in this I have taken some photos to assist anyone who wants to do the same. The sender is one of the many on E-bay for less than $2.
I have been using these for several years with no issues.
The tank obviously needs to be removed and dried, Using a cone cutter or suitable size drill make a hole as in the pics. Remove any swarf then abrade the outside around the hole. I then use brake cleaner or crc to clean the inside and outside of the hole.
Now you can feed the wires in from the top and out of the hole and gently pull the sender down and through the hole. Keep the float facing upwards and once the threaded part is in the hole it can be turned to face downward.
If all looks good remove the float leaving the wires poking out of the hole and coat the inner edge of the float with araldite, pull the float back down and into place ensuring there is a complete layer of araldite on the inner edge. Now coat the outer edge of the hole around the threads of the sender, put on the O ring and nut and tighten it up ensuring the sender does not turn. A pair of long nose pliers will hold the sender whilst the nut is tightened. Now coat the outside of the nut and a few MM of the tank with araldite to complete the seal. Leave to dry then refit.
Wiring must include a relay to switch what ever alarm you chose to fit.
