    Chasis number

    Hi all,
Just about to order some parts from UK but some items say they are suitable up to a certain chasis number, where do I find this, the manual only mentions VIN.
    Cheers

The VIN contains the numbers. They'll be a series of numbers at the end of the VIN, preceded by two letters that dictate the year of build. Most of the time it's to dictate whether car is GEMS or Bosch ignition system. But there were some parts subject to GEMS era updates.

This explains it better than I can.

Letters at the end of the VIN? There are letters at the beginning which indicate the model and year, e.g., LP is the official model code for what we call a P38A, LM is the L322, etc.

The two letters before the number indicate the year, e.g., MA is 1995 model year.

Yeah that's weird. I was copying and pasting an article that summarised P38 VIN's and somehow I got your binnacle article Ron. Still a good read - but completely unrelated.

Be careful of US VINs, their earlier numbering is different to the rest of world. I can scan the pages describing the differences if needs be.
