    Yes, I forget to disconnect mine all the time too. The new Kiwi2 adaptor has a low power mode to stop this from happening. I am thinking about putting a switch on the dash to turns the ODBII diagnostic port off, but I seem to remember there being two wires with 12v power on that socket, so it may not be dead simple.

    I know some people have added a switch or a relay to only provide power when the ignition is on

    thanks guys, yup, problem solved. Just need to trace slight air leak that drops car to lowest level as soon as i start it. have checed all the hoses, must be an air bag...oh well all else seams great at the moment otherwise....

    I do not know what kind of power drain these things have, but I can confirm that the car supplies the power to run them.
    There is a 5amp fuse in the fuse box for power to that socket.

    it's the fact that the ELM327 keeps waking up the BECM which eventually flattens the battery
