    Transfer Case Chain replacement

    Hi All,

My P38 has been sitting in my shed for a while awaiting some more love and attention and I have decided to replace the transfer case chain since I have just replaced the VC. I was just wondering if it is worth me considering buying a Britpart chain or spending the extra cash and getting the version sold by Ashcroft? Also can anyone tell me what the part number is for this rubber seal (No11) shown in picture below:

    Cheers
    Matt

Can you make the first image any smaller and the second any bigger?

I did the VC last year on my 2001 HSE, I don't remember that number 11 washer being rubber, from memory it was metal. There is an oil seal (number 9 in your diagram, which presses into the VC housing), but beyond that I don't recall any other rubber seals on that shaft.

I would pay the extra and get an Ashcroft, although I recall from a few years ago that there is a US supplier of Reynolds Borg Warner Chains which are OEM..

About 5 or so years ago I and another AULRO member imported 2 cheap chains. I never used mine but he couldn't get it to fit. Apparently the cheap chains had a slightly different angle on the "v" of the links and wouldn't seat properly.

I definitely had a rubber seal that was attached to the end of the original VC at the base of the thread where the nut for the flange tightens to. I will take a photo tomorrow and post it up

Ok so finally an update, I just removed the transfer case over the weekend and opened it up with the view to replace all bearings and chain. I noticed that the oil pump looks to have a sharp edge on the top of it, almost like something has broken off, but I did not find any pieces of metal. It also looks as if the pump has been rotating small amount approx 10 degrees or so but has started to wear against the internals of the TC. I have attached picture to hopefully show the issue I found.

Ok, so I have pulled the TC apart a bit more. Pictures below show damage to oil pump.
