Cruise control
The cruise control on The Bitch has started to play up.
It engages and keeps working but wont maintain the set speed ?
If I set it for 100k it works but slowly loses speed and drops back to about 85, put foot on throttle to get back to 100 but slowly drops back again.
Same problem on any setting.
It's a pain in the foot, knee and thigh muscle and having to concentrate on the speedo does not allow time to daydream about our Firebirds with their little mini's and cute bums.
I suspect it has a vacuum leak somewhere ?
I cant find any descriptive reference to the cruise control in Rave so I thought I would ask here for your thoughts before I poke about under the bonnet.

It certainly sounds like a loss of vacuum to the actuator.
There's vacuum hoses around the pump/actuator. Check those first.
If they look OK, there's a long hose that goes from the T piece near the pump all the way down to the brake pedal. If the other hoses look OK, the brake pedal one can be temporarily bypassed by removing the T piece & joining the other 2 hoses together with a joining tub.
If it works after bypassing the brake pedal hose, you'll need to trace the hose down to the brake pedal switch & find the leak.
There's details of the cruise control electrics in the ETM (not sure if the ETM is in RAVE though).

Okay thanks for that.
It gives me a starting point.
I had no idea that there was a hose going down to the brake pedal but I suppose that I would have found it.
What's an ETM and where would I locate such a thingy ?
Cheers.

As I said the cruise control was working but with a problem.
Well i found that the short hose from the actuator thingy to the pump was cracked enough to bugger up the vacuum.
I replaced that hose with a new one, no problem, simple.
Beaudy.
Now nothing works !!!
Cruise control wont turn on !!!
GRRR, what the hell.
It would have gotten air into the system when I replaced the hose, would this be a problem, does it have to be gotten rid of ?
How ?
I dont know were to go next.
I cant find any reference to fuses or anything in the literature I have available, not even a diagram of the system.
Without the cruise control the thing is a crap heap, should I place an order for a new Ford Ranger Widetrack ?
Help.

Robert,
nothing to bleed in the cruise control. Are you sure that was the only cracked hose? I replaced mine recently and found two of the hoses with cracks. Also start up the car and see if the brake lights are permanently on. Whilst checking the hose at the back of the brake pedal you may have inadvertently changed the brake light switch position.
Plus the obvious make sure the cruise control button is switched on on the dash

G'day.
Yes the cruise control button is switched on.
I bypassed the hose going down to the brake pedal to check the works first
when I replaced the cracked hose.
I used a longer piece of hose to go from the pump to the other thingy and went for a drive but discovered it was a no show.
i am not able to check out the around the brake pedal at the moment because i am recovering from a cracked vertibrae and cant get down and twist about.
The strange thing is that before with a cracked hose the thing activated but simply changing a short hose it now does not.
I suspect it must be the pump or bellows actuator thingy but buggered if I know.
It has me baffled but not much more I can do at the moment.
Cheers.
