I read that thread and the on on rr.net

I originally bought the passive cable before reading those threads and of course it didn't work

I noticed however that nexxia now have an adaptor which uses high/low convertors so I bought one of those off ebay and wired them up in a proper balanced configuration i.e. brought all the earth connections back to the head unit and connected them to a single point there

Then I adjusted the output level on the convertors and it worked perfectly

The HK door amps require a higher impedance input, so the RCA line output is too low and the speaker output is too high, although it will work

Hence the attenuator described here is required for the best sound from the speaker level outputs

However this only seems to work well with the 99 on Alpine head units, the earlier Clarion units need a bit more voodoo applied to them !

Do you think Nexxia saw my thread and solution? I wonder if they'd swap the old for the new?

Do you have any info on them Steve, apart from what's on Nexxia's website (off noe to have a look there).
