A little adventure in my P38

So many naysayers claim the P38 is a diabolical beast prone to exploding in a ball of fire at the slightest provocation.....
I have met a couple of members here and all have claimed their P38 is a bit temperamental but overall reliable .
So , I can claim that mine has been a bit freaky but alls well after some fiddling and fettling .

Mostly related to temp gauge issues ...so idid another trip over the last four days , from home to Mansfield, then up/down to the how qua river , camped a little , and then travelled up the mt Stirling - Craig's hut , And thence to stringy bark creek .
    Home via freeway .

Towing my camper trailer , over hill and dale - up the 4x4 track to Craig's hut and then around the circuit Rd .

The hottest my watchdog claimed was 86deg climbing up to telephone box junction - it was 29 deg ambient outside . Mostly it runs at 80-81deg constant @100kmh towing .

Claimed economy is 14.1 , standard 4.6 low comp running on 91 fuel

Standard crappy tyres , road pressures - will put some new A/T on shortly

    Car is a ripper !

I had to stop looking at your head gasket posts , it put the fear of God into me !

Then I decided to just go , what could go wrong ?

    Don't answer that ......

Nah , it's an amazingly capable old thing , I am lusting after a newer one now .
Only problem is everything works on this one ,so no excuses -(well except the temp gauge ......)

The secret is , fix what doesn't work and keep on top of maintenance, then tell everyone else that they are old buckets and watch the depreciation bring a newish one into my hands !

Well , I am using you as my benchmark , the p38s you have had seem to have done okay in an environment that would strain most vehicular relationships !

And then you bought another one ! !

A very comfy touring couch that goes anywhere effortlessly.

    I feel honored mate, honestly!

Like you say, you get it it tip top shape, keep it that way and you have nothing to worry about.

I feel like a preacher, but honestly, sensible driving will get you everywhere in these things and make others wish they had one too.

    Cheers
