Thread: Central locking faulty

I installed a pull cord on the lower tailgate, just in case. If you remove the liner trim from the lower tailgate, you should see where to pull to make it work.

You have a problem in the O/S/F lock. It'll need the microswitches sorting out, failing that, replacement.

I had the same problem a while back, in the short term, I found if I held the switch down for a few seconds it did unlock the tail gate.
The cause of the problem was my drivers door latch, which was causing other weird problems like the doors locking and unlocking themselves while driving, tailgate not operating properly, also unlocking while parked on a hot day, not exactly what I'd call ideal security!
The drivers door latch is like a master switch that controls all the locking mechanisms, including the tailgate, if it is faulty you will get problems like you are describing.
It's not very hard to replace, get yourself a new drivers door latch and replace it.
You can find them on ebay if you have a good look, otherwise a landrover parts supplier.

A great tip is once you are in the door cavity, undo the screw that holds the door handle in place, the handle can be swung out and allows access from the other side of the door, makes life much easier, believe me!
