You are correct, you only have traction control on the rear, mine seems to work fairly well, driving nice and steady seems to get the best out of the system, it also keeps the drive train alive longer, I found mine seems better now I have mud tyres, so maybe the traction being better on the touching tyre helps.

If the light is flickering and the dash is beeping it should be working

hmmm, I dont get beeps. I mean sure it beeps constantly when doing anything else, getting in, getting out, putting the window up, trying to open the sunroof... but I can say it doesnt beep when it looses traction. TRC light comes on, and I get the sound of a relay going nuts under the dash but def no beeps

If you are getting beeps when opening and closing windows and sunroof then you need to set the windows and sunroof

Just open and close them fully, the procedure is in your owners manual

The other thing to remember is that the traction control is designed to work off road so it only works up to, I think, 25 or 30 kph, but if you are getting the light on it should be working, obvious first step is check the fuses, and the earth connections, they can cause all sorts of interesting things !

I find the system works with the throttle, the more throttle you use, the better it works, and it's very controllable with the throttle too.

Exactly what Benji said, but with a twist.

I was teaching a potential P38 owner how to utilize the TC off road so I purposely idled up to an obstacle where I knew opposites would be in the air and the car balancing on two wheels. At idle or light revs you could hear the TC working but were not making progress. The best way to make it work is to add a few revs (and I'm only talking 300rpm) just to pick wheel speeds up a little.

In the demo we went from about 1000rpm and no progress to 1500rpm and walked off the obstacle.
