    Terrafirma rear bumper, TF070A

I recently purchased and fitted a terrafirma rear bumper, Range Rover P38 – Lucky 8 Parts and Accesories for Land Rovers

In my experience the bumper is solidly build and the external fit (following the contours of the bodywork) is pretty much spot on. The internal fit however was very bad. For starters the chassis of the P38 is 8cm thick, the mounting of the terrafirma bumper was 9cm wide. The distance between the chassis rails on the inside is a perfect fit, but the outer mounting plates are just a whole cm to far of. I still have to look into this on how to make this better. In my opinion, if I try to recover my vehicle like this, the bolts will probably rip through the chassis.

Also, the P38 bodywork has a curve on the rear, below and behind the bumper on each side. The terrafirma unit does have a cut-out for this curve but again, it is a whopping 1cm of! I had to use a plasma cutter to remove a strip over nearly the entire length of the sides of the bumper. Through my supplier I have informed terrafirma/allmakes but I have yet to get a satisfactory answer. Thus far an account manager came back with "it's normal that there is some variation", not acceptable imho.

The bumper came with a bashplate but in order to fit that you will have to cut of the factory tow hook, hence I have not done that yet.

If I hear anything, I will post updates here.

So close & yet so far...

I'm surprised there's no provision for a spare wheel carrier as that's one of the main reasons for replacing the standard rear bar.

    Hi Steve,

I tend to agree. What does surprise me is that there seems to be a provision for a towball, though I am fairly certain that it is not certified. I will check with a towbar manufacturer friend of mine what can be done about that. Also, I intend to make a spare wheel carrier myself, possibly even two although that would probably cover the rear lights so extra lights in the bar would become a necessity.
