    Fire warning.

We've just got back from the vic high country where we the exhaust manifold shield catch fire.

Mine were in bad shape, but I figured it would be better than nothing at all. They were hanging down and all fibrous/hairy.

The exhaust was extremely hot (I could see the manifold glowing red ), and it lit the heat shield that was dangling on the cat and down pipe alight.

    So please everyone, check these!!!!!

We managed to put it out, cool it down and pull it all the heat shielding out and it was fine for the rest of the trip (If not a bit smelly).

    wow.

Thanks for the heads up mate! Mine were never refitted since most of the spacers had snapped of, but I was looking into reinstalling them old gnarly heatshields since without under hood temps are just way to high. I have been thinking about going ceramic coated but I can't find a set of exhaust manifolds without flexpipe for my gems that will fit into the downpipes.

    Hopefully nothing got damaged?

    Cheers,
    -P

    Sorry I should've been a bit clearer.
I meant the heat shields above the cats, and at the bottom of the fire wall where the pipes turn under the floor pan.

I've had problems with those tin heat shields too in the past, and all but one of the spacers on mine is threaded rod.

I'm also thinking of wrapping from the union at the bottom of the manifold down to the start of the cats, that should help too.
