    Difference between SE and HSE?

Hey all I am buying a P38 one day soon.... trying to do lots of research, I think I want a 4.6 HSE but lots of clean looking SE's keep cropping up some with leather. So what exactly do you get on the HSE over the SE?

    Thanks in advance

The most obvious one is the sunroof. There are others like non dipping side mirrors etc(These can be configured on the BECM though I believe).
Make sure you check the VIN number though.
I have a P38a in at the moment with 4.6HSE badging on the tailgate, but it is a 4.0 SE...

The VIN must have SALLPAMB......to be a 4.0litre SE. The 4.6HSE has SALLPAMD......

The seller had even tampered with the books, changing the '0' to a '6' and even adding a 'H' before the 'SE'

People like that need a quiet talking to...

Upping the badges to HSE is quite common but altering the books is going a bit far.
I've even seen a poverty pack 4.0 (not SE) badged as a 4.6 HSE .

BTW, all 4.0 SE's have leather. It was the base 4.0 that came along in the late 90's that had the cloth seats.

I remember when my old man was looking for one in brisbane we saw one just as you described, but the spec definatly was a SE 4.0.

The old man has a 98 4.0 S spec rangie (with leather as an option by the look of it. Non-electric seats as well, less crap to go wrong ).

    Dave,

All HSE's are 4.6 Auto's..(except in Europe where you could also get the 2.5 diesel in HSE form)

Sunroof, fog lamps , auto dipping rear view mirror, dipping wing mirrors when in reverse..and leather electric seats were all standard on the HSE.

Not sure if the 'Harmon Kardon' sound system was available on the SE..?..

Might be selling my 97 4.6 HSE soon !!..

    cheers,
    Richard

You'd better change it's name before you advertise it .

I should really know, but old age and having driven so many different cars over the years means that I have to refer to some old L/R literature. Even then I doubt its accuracy.

Anyway, in 1995, there were two models available at launch - the 4.0 SE and 4.6 HSE.

The 4.0 SE had a spec change later, to (I think) include leather seats. the cloth seat model became the 4.0 or as I have seen also, the 4.0 S, BUT at launch it was called the 4.0 SE. I remember because I tested one in about October 1995.

Both SE and HSE had the 11-speaker Harmon-Kardon system, and both had the healight washer/wipers but I don't recall ever seeing the 4.0 models with this.

But according to 'Range Rover - A History' the HSE had in addition to the 4.0 SE the following:
sunroof, electric front seats, with driver's memory, lazy seat function (?I have no idea what this is), electric heated rear vision mirrors with reverse gear dipping, fog lights, Electronic Traction Control (rear wheels only), leather seats, five-spoke alloys, rear map lamps, rear door puddle lamps, front and rear footwell lamps, burled walnut garnish rail on door casings, centre console cubby box with reversable lid containing cup holders, front and rear mudflaps auto dimming interior rear vision mirror and illuminated passenger vanity mirror.

Holding down the unlock button on #1 remote will move the seats & mirrors to memory #1. Same goes with #2.

Will probably have to call it something tough and masculine when I sell it..
