I think the important thing here is what radio you have fitted to the car.
The subwoofers were fitted to vehicles with the Clarion head unit.
As you have a 4.0, you might have a Eurovox unit instead which might make your task a bit harder.
Hi guys, I've managed to pick up a factory sub and amp cheap and was wondering whether there is any tricks to installing it. I presume as the model I've got is a 99, it should have the wires or mounting location already, apart from the obvious trim difference. Has anyone added this before, is there anything extra I need to buy or look out for when putting in the car? thanks, Ren

Yes the 4.0 will have Aus spec radio. It has a different wiring loom also for the ICE system.
As Scouse has said makes things a lot harder.![]()
bugger! thanks for the help, yes, it's the eurovox with i think a sony stacker unit. Is it easier to chase a clarion head unit or can i persist with the eurovox? or chase a wreck for the wiring? I gather the eurovox doesn't have an out for the sub?
It would be easier to remove the Eurocrap and fit a better Clarion or Alpine deck. Wouldnt have bothered with the original sub either.
Go to your local car audio joint and see what package deals you can get.
I have only half finished mine and spent about $3000, but installed it myself and got it at "staffie" price thru a mate. Retail would be nudging $5000 atm. Just need one more amp and a bazillion bucks for the Focal speakers!!!![]()
I would say sticking to the Eurovox unit would be the safest/easiest bet but I have no idea if there's an output for it.
From memory, you should have an 8970R. Give Go Technologies a call & see if they can help (they took over/replaced Eurovox recently).

Its the same thing as offered in the Classic. Regardless of how "big" it is, its what drives it that makes the difference. Its pointless having a 12" subbie with a voice coil that would usually be found in a normal speaker as these are. Subwoofer voice coils need to be quite large to be able to throw the long pulses needed to get to the sub 700Hz range. The deck needs to have a specific sub output powerfull enough to drive it correctly. If not, and found in any quality audio system, is a pre-out to an amp.
These "subwoofers" are just a bass speaker with nothing more than a resistor/capacitor arrangement to filter out frequencies above about 1kHz.
Have a look in the Rave CD, it should give you the wiring diagram for it. I am at work atm and I have the factory manuals at home that have this. Will check later for differences.
thanks that would be great. I was hoping to keep a factory looking setup, keeping the boot space. I picked up the box with amp for $20, the test before buy sounded okay. I believe I can take the box apart and possibly change the inside. In regards to the head unit, I don't mind changing it if I have to for a clarion or alpine unit as it will have MP3 etc, however I'll have to toss the stacker. If I can get this setup going it will keep me going until I possibly upgrade the whole system further down the track. Apart from fitting the sub, all I need is the factory trim to go around the unit now, unless I make one up.
Have had a look in my manual about the subbie. There is specific wiring and it looks like it has its own setup for the Eurovox. As it was an option on the Classic, there is no additional wiring looms in the back of mine so I guess its installed as required. The output may well be in the std plug in the back of the deck. I couldnt find a wiring diagram with the sub in it in the manual so cant give any details on what they may be.
I think you will find it easier to by a deck with all the pre outs already installed and if the sub box still has what looks like to be the amp on the top of it, run the RCA output to it, power the amp and see what happens.![]()
