Help! coolant leak inside the cab of 99 RR.

Hi guys. I struck disaster this morning when I noticed a coolant leak inside the cab of my 99 RR. It is on the drivers side and is leaking down near the footwell vents and foot step. I've pulled the underdash panel off and can see that where the metal coolant pipes come in from the firewall to the heater unit, there is a leak at the heater end. Has anyone had similar? I'm thinking of getting some silicon or pipe sealant to try and seal up, hopefully without having to dismantle the centre dash? any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated, thanks, Ren

Heater core O rings by the sounds of it.
Not too hard a job but can be very fiddly & time consuming.

I've been putting mine off for a while though .

    Hi mate,

I had a simalar issue and ended up bypassing the heater with a U type join in the engine bay. Not sure if that would work for you or at all on your veh.

thanks mate, how bad is yours leaking however? Mine is fairly noticeable where the coolant can be seen pooling on the carpet and floor. What's involved to change them, getting the pipes off the back of the heater unit, i gather?

Luckily mines just an occasional drip at the moment.

Repair involves moving the heater core back off the pipes. See

    G'day Ren,

Ron Beckett has done a great page on how to fix this on rangerovers.net

    Heater Core O-Ring Replacement

He gives a complete description on how to fix the problem without taking the car apart. It is for a 95 model, but I reckon the details won't be too different.

Let us know how you go.

could this be a reason why the service icon comes up on the climate control display occasionally? I have noticed it happens more when I run the car on gas for some reason.
