    P38 shockers

    Hi,

am needing to update my P38's shockers and steering damper, any recommendations?
No need for off roading, just a good highway/every day ride, thanks.

i thought that it was important to stay with original shocks/steering damper on any P38.

    Hi Romulus

Have a chat with Andrew at HRA Hard Range Australia
    or
check out Air Suspension Kits, Air Shocks, Suspension Parts, Struts - Arnott Industries for their Bilstein stuff for the P38A.

I've had Bilstein shock on my last 2 P38A's and been very happy with them.

Dunno about the steering damper, but I think I read in a mag somewhere that Tough Dog do one for the P38A.

    cheers
    Paul.

If you want to go the "handling" route then a set of gas charges armstrong adjustables will do the trick. Just so happens I have a surplus set with low kms , never been off road. But I would not recommend them for general road use.

I ended up in my quest for the "perfect ride" installing original everything,,,as it was designed...still not perfect but very comfortable...

    cheers

I do like Bilstein's, had them on my first Disco.
Waiting to get pricing for Bilstein's made to suit the P38 air suspension.
Thanks for the offer but my P38 will be a Toorak tractor!!

have ordered a complete set of Bilstein's including steering dampener, as well, updating all my airbags to gen II, as my right rear is leaking, so decided to go to the updated design, all of which will be fitted next week.

    Hi Romulus

Other than price, were there any other reasons you chose Gen II's over the Gen III's?

Can't comment on Gen II's, but I had a new set of Gen III's on my previous P38A and they were great on and off-road. My current P38A already had a set of Gen III's when I bought it a few months ago, but these are probably about 3 years old and have had a hard life - won't be surprised if I have to replace one or more in the next 12 months.

I'll be interested to hear your opinion of the Gen II's and Bilsteins compared to the stock setup.

    Cheers, Paul.

basically price I guess, did a fair bit of reading up and from what I could ascertain is that the Gen II's are very good and since my P38 is a Toorak tractor I am sure they will do just fine.
Bilsteins's were recommended by a number of 4WD industry people as a good combo with the air springs.
Looking forward to having it all fitted up.
Once the new suspension is on, the car will have been pretty well brought back to near new condition (probably better!), the last thing now is to have a body respray, which is planned for later in the year.

    Thumbs up

    WOW!!!!!
what an amazing difference a set of new Bilstein's with steering dampener and a set of new suspension air bag's does to the handling of the car!!!!.....like chalk and cheese!!
The 'wishy-washy' feeling is gone, steering is much more precise and direct, quieter....better than show room condition!!!

This just confirms my previous positive experience with Bilstein's on my first Disco, a '91 3.5. They may cost more but are WELL worth every dollar spent!
