    LED interior lights

Has anyone changed their cabin lights over to LED units? Saw these on my Dad's Jaguar a while ago and was really impressed with the clarity of the lighting.

Got a 36mm replacement bulb from Jay Car today for the main cabin light. It was a bit short but fit anyway when I bent the contacts in. I reckon the 41mm LED will be a proper fit.

Couldn't replace the map lights with the LED ones as they were too long/big to fit in the sockets.

If anyone has done this, please let me know what you used and where you got them from.

    Ta, Paul.

How do the LEDs cope with the fading function?

I fitted them to my '87 but haven't done so in the '96. I like the appearance but I haven't found them to be too reliable though.

I ordered 4 of the 41mm 6-LED globes and they arrived today from Dave's Intersting things.

They are a direct replacement for the main interior light. The 41mm are too large for the lights above the rear doors. I had a couple of 31mm 2-LED globes that fit ok, but reckon the 33mm 4-LED from Dave's shop would be better... will get them on my next order.

Still haven't got a replacement for the map lights at the front or the boot lid light.

However, the white/bluish LED interior is a big improvement over the yellow/white standard globes... and the fade function seems to work fine.

For a later project, I'll do the footwells... hang on, I've got a "Pov Pack" Rangie now, don't think it has footwell lamps... maybe I'll have to get some then

Tried to replace the interior light in my my Wife's Astra with one of these LED's and it wouldn't work at all, so obviously they aren't suited to all cars.

    Cheers, Paul.

I went to Bright Lights yesterday and was way impressed with all the gear they have on display. Their website is good and they also have a catalogue.

Update to the LED light transition...
Don't bother replacing the rear number plate globes with LED units unless you like the "plate bulb blown" (or similar) message on the console every time you switch your lights on.
Seemed like a good idea at the time...
    Cheers, Paul.

We discussed this at: RangeRovers.net • View topic - LED lighting for license frame

But you are right, A single bulb failure won't bring up the warning. I tried it tonight.

hmm, interesting read Ron - I hadn't noticed that thread. I'll have to go back and revisit what I did then... seemed that I was getting the "bulb failure" message if I had one or both swapped over to LED.

I only wanted the LH one to work as I've relocated the number plate up off the rear bar... it was getting bent too much.
