    Key in ignition message P38A

Lately when i pull the key out of the ignition i can hear the beep as i leave the car to tell me that the key is still in the ignition and accompanying message on the dash. It doesn't happen all the time but happens intermittently.

    Anyone got any ideas?

    Cheers,
    Remy

I've just had one do the same thing, thinking it may be a proximity issue with the key etc? Haven't had time to check it thgough as yet.

it's due to the tumblers not seating correctly when you pull the key out. Puff some graphite (not too much) into the ignition lock and move the key in/out a few times and tuyrn the ignition to position 2 and back a few times. Should fix it OK. cheers

It could also be the microswitch behind the barrel. I've seen a couple get done over the years. Not common though.

Tried the graphite and seems the tumblers are now aligning and the message has dissappeared. Thanks Hoges! I will monitor over the next week or so but has been faultless today.
