I am about to start my project which i have named "Revive Man Trip" the reason why i have named it this is because i once had a "Man day trip" which involved many manly activities like drinking beer then going 4WDin then cutting down a tree to make a fire and getting my Rangey bogged which i think the fact i may have had to manydidnt really help the situation. Now i wasnt able to get it out because i sitting on my diffs and my recovery car was back at camp. i had to walk 28 k's back to camp which in my defense it was the only option i had tried everything else. On my way back it got dark and i dont have to mention to you all how dark it gets out in the bush
. It didnt help my mate was talking about every imaginable way we could get killed by aliens and random cats and what not
. so i decided that i wasnt going to go 4WDin again until i actually converted it into one capable of not getting stuck so easy!
So that is my little background as to why i named it that.
I ordered my spring conversion kit from Arnotts last week and i just received it today!i also ordered the 2" spacers for the springs.
I am going start it tomorrow which i know ill run into heaps of issues and im willing to put money on it because no matter what i do to this car i always run into problems!
Ill take photos of what im doing and post them up on this thread so you can all see including the funny things like cutting open your finger and then using gaffe tape to stop it from bleeding
The list of things after the conversion is:
1.33" Wranglers
2.Snorkel (if i can find someone to do it)
3.Bash Guard (which im going to attempt to make myself)
4. 4:11 dif gears to compensate for the loss of torque with the bigger tires.
5.locker (if i can weigh up the value for money)
Things already done to my car:
1.Exhaust
2.146 DB sound system (its too loud)
3.LPG Gas (not injected)
4.Bored out heads
5.Rebuilt bottom end
6.Rebuilt transmission
so as we can see i have almost rebuilt my entire engine!$$$
And that is my life story.....i know it needed more stories about naked women

Seriously though, its good to see someone using their P38 for what it was made for and not pussy footing around! I look foward to seeing the build, and hearing more stories.

You're in good company on this forum - many knowledgable folks who are willing to share their experiences. While I don't pretend to be overly knowledgable, I'd like to offer a few observations...
Hmm, not very "manly" at all mate... I don't think I'd admit to drinking too much grog and then getting behind the wheel of a 2.5T truck on the tarmac or in the scrub. At least noone was hurt. Sorry, had to be said.
I think we can safely put the getting bogged bit down to driver judgement due to external factors (er, internal/ingested I suppose really). I've never been able to get any of my Rangies properly bogged. Drowned one yes, bogged never.
Anyway, on to the more interesting bits...
Good, at least you are under no illusions that you will get out of this cheaply. Hope for the best but plan for the worst is a safe strategy when it comes to Rangies. When they are running well, nothing comes close to them and everyone wants to be part of it. When they play up, most mechanics just shake their heads 'coz it's not a Toymato or Patrol.
I think the Arnott Coil Conversion kit without the spacers will put your ride height between EAS "Highway" and "Standard" heights, and with the 2" spacers you should be around High/Wading height.
Wait and see - they may not fit. I run 33" Bighorns with a 2" lift and extended EAS and they still rub on the lower heights.
Obviously any tyre bigger than stock will not fit in the spare wheel well so you'll also want to look at a new rear bar and spare wheel carrier. Allow another $2k if you get one made up from somewhere such as 4x4 Intelligence.
Hopefully I'll have one in a couple of weeks... but you've seen that thread

Yep, good idea. Also be prepared for higher revs on the highway and increased fuel consumption.
I was quoted $1500 fitted from ARB for a front air locker, but I already have a rear air locker so most of the plumbing and electrics are already there if/when I decide to do it. If you are going for either front or rear, rather than both, I'd opt for the front. I had the rear locker fail me on one occassion where a front locker would probably have done it.
In my case it seems like my exhaust is 146dB
Have you invested in a FaultMate MSV or similiar diagnostics tool for the P38A? Well worth the $1,000 or so if you want to diagnose and clear faults yourself.

i cant get this stupid ****ing one out its glued there or something i cant see any reason as to why it still stuck in there! ive taken both pins out top and bottom but the top just wont drop ive tried ramming something in between it and leavering it to get it to drop but it just wont budge!
anyone got any ideas on how to get it out?
btw i have put the front ones in without a hitch i was sitting there going YES this is gonna go without a hitch! and then.....i couldnt get a wheel nut off the rear tire (no idea why) and now this problem!

after i posted this thread i decided to try one last time....i grabbed the airbag and put both feet on the chassis and just pulled as hard as i could and IT CAME OUTi pulled every muscle in my body but still its out!....there was a moisture build up im thinking that maybe it was acting like a vacuum seal....and before anyone says you weren't pulling it hard enough i had a crowbar to it and it wasn't moving!
Oh and Andy yeah i did have the air hose outand i think you were right about the mud....i still cant work out how there was moisture in between the seals.
and on that note i think i shall call it a night. 7am start tomorrow i gotta get these last two springs in and go buy me some Wranglers

I totally agree with you! Hence why i barely drink these days....i guess i grew up
lol i had road tires on...
after finishing the conversion today i would say that its about the same height as the "Wading" and i also noticed that when i put it on a massive angle the coils don't compress nearly as much as the bag did....
so far i havnt come across any problems with anything since ive finished the conversion....i did however hear a metal object bouncing around in the back and i heard something making a massive bang and then i heard a metal hit road sound.....i left a spanner still on one of the shocks

on the road it drives....different....its not a bad different its just stiffer but its not overly hard i would say its smoother when your going faster but slower its a little bit more "bouncy"

Hey Guys,
I have uploaded all the photos! im a bit annoyed because i forgot to take photos of the rear because i was having trouble fitting the brackets into the mounting holes on the top. i had to angle grind them about 1.5mm to make them fit. Thats really all i would have taken a photo of.
