Yeah, saw those too. They are the same as what my old HSE had. From memory you lose about 40-50mm clearance and they have virtualy no use off road other than collecting mud. Certainly not enough strength to act as a slider.

They look nice on Road Rangies, but I suspect you'd be looking for something more like these Sliders

Paul how much clearance is lost with the sliders?
Do origonals have enough strength to protect sills?

My old side steps took a few whacks and the bottoms started to get bent out of shape. I suppose you'd call it sacrificial protection in that they will take a bit of a beating before the sills get damaged. I don't believe they have enough strength to support the vehicle though. More for looks than stregth.

Andy... if you're lurking... do you have any pics of the side steps removed from one of your wrecks?

The Rock Rover sliders claim to sacrifice no clearance, and looking at the photo below I tend to believe them. Nice units, I'd be pretty tempted if I had the spare cash at the moment, especially with the good exchange rate.

sorry paul, no pictures of the sidesteps off. one important thing with the factory ones though THEY ARE SIDESTEPS, NOT SLIDERS. they are only held in by silly little 6mm rivnuts/nutserts in the chassis. They will pull out very very easily. I would not go off road with them at all if there was a chance of hitting them.

Paul, let me know when you can definately come up, and we can make some.

Cool! Haven't sought permission from the boss yet, but am planning for Saturday 22-Aug if that suits you. I will confirm for you tomorrow. Gonna' be a busy day!

    Cheers, Paul.

Cool Rock Rover unavailable in AUS

    Hey guys,

I have previously enquired about the front bash plate and lovely slim line bar from these guys and got told NO GO for sale or even borrowing their design & specs for a one off AUS build. I contacted the managing director (or someone at that level) via e-mail about 1-2 months ago.

Perhaps they have a deal in the pipe line with someone over here or something, but I was given a very clear NO 3 times (I went back and back and back!).

I wanted the under body stuff to get a bit more serious off road with out having to go down the jack it up route. Am always happy to scrape a protected and relatively smooth under belly! Forward momentum becomes a more meaningful tool then too!

    Dave & the pretty pig!

I suppose the sliders from Rock Rover would be very bulky, heavy and expensive to ship anyway... perhaps that is part of the their reluctance to ship them. Or maybe someone like Hard Range is doing a deal with them? That would be cool.

But if we can't get them when we want them (i.e. now), I guess we'll just have to come up with our own designs instead.

Shouldn't be too hard to find a a few solid mounting points underneath to bolt some custom/homegrown sliders on to.
