The D2 uses the same mirror mount so that's another option if your's dies.
If you do start seeing the liquid in your mirror, remove it straight away. I don't know what it is but it's very corrosive to the radio & HEVAC controls.
It seems like the failure of these mirrors is quite common so as mine was faulty I thought I would see if I could make it usable again. The mirror was brown in most parts and foggy looking + did not change in any way. I took it off, opened it up and found the mirror is fronted by another piece of clear glass with an oily fluid sealed in between the two. I think the seal had given up and some oil had escaped rendering it useless. I managed to carefully prise the two pieces of glass apart, cleaned off the oil then refitted using the mirror glass only, discarding the clear glass.
Now at least the mirror is perfect although it does not dip, a function I can quite easily live without.

Thanks SCouse... mine died and I bought a reverse camera clip on mirror for $120 off e-bay. However, had not bothered to empty remaining goo out of it. Will do ASAP.
FYI, the camera-screen combo is a really good solution especially for parking and hitching trailers (as well as the obvious safety benefits). It will also take a couple of other video inputs so perhaps, when I get round to it, a camera might end up going on the camper trailer!
did you go for this one? Reversing Camera
I'm thinking that the second video input will be useful for a forward facing camera in line with the front diff for off-road use![]()

I dont know how you split it apart, the goo that leaked out of one of mine, seems to have solidified like araldite. I have been very lucky with my p38s, out of the 8 cars that i have owned, only 1 had a dud auto mirror.
Like scouce said, a d2 mirror is the same. So is the D1 after 1996.
The bosch p38s (post 99) also share the auto mirrors with several bmw models.

Nah, I got this one as it only displays on half the mirror so you still have the ability to use it as a mirror whilst watching the images:
well yeah, I have been day dreaming on it since getting it in the mail and like the idea of a few wireless pinhole digital cameras in various locations around the vehicle transmitting to the thing with a switching mech that can select beyond the 2 wired inputs... but that just seems a little too silly and way beyond my relatively meager technical abilities! Especially when I havent even fitted the thing yet!!!
The penny drops..................................is this why the front of my wireless looks like this ?
Is it actually possible to fix the mirror properly or get a replacement or are they all like this ?

Might also be worth doing a search on here as I have a dim memory that this subject has been visited before. And something about a Commodore mirror fitting. But then my memory cells may be playing tricks.
