    99 4.0L EZYGAS and Distributor

    Hi All,

it's been awhile since I've been on and I hope everyone is well. I've had happy driving until recently.
My LPG stopped working altogether, it is a Sprint vapour system installed by EZYGAS.

I took the car in today and was told a wire from the distributor to the gas computer had become disconnected. So $77 later and including a gas tune I was able to drive on gas again.

I was told by EZYGAS that my distributor may be faulty, causing the gas computer to fail. On the way home I noticed that at around 80-100km traveling downhill or slowing down with my foot off the accelerator, the system switches back to petrol then back to gas.

Is this likely to be the dizzy? I've always been of the understanding that switching between gas and fuel whilst running is not advised?

    Cheers,
    Ren

btw, thanks Andy for the parts

Your car doesn't have a distributor. I'd check the LPG pressure sensor.

    Hi Ron,
thanks for your help. How do I check the LPG pressure sensor? Do I need to go back to Ezygas?

They specifically said, that it was a loose wire to the distributor? I know it has the lead coil/blocks - maybe they've mixed it up with that, and without a rev range signal, the gas would stop.

If they said that, as Ron has pointed out, they know less about P38s than they ought. It sounds to me like they are telling you about their experience with other cars.

Unhappy Not entirely "LPG happy" either...

So who really is best for gas tuning and trouble shooting P38's in Melbourne? Does anyone have a good experience to share?

LPG conversion for my '95 4.6 HSE was originally done by LPGAS1 in Lilydale a few years ago and ran absolutely wonderfully right through to a cooked engine a year or so ago.

Since the subsequent and recent rebuild, I have happily been back to one place a few times and was nearly ready to post them as a "shining light" service provider for all, but it turns out they just can not seem to get their gas tuning right. My "pretty pig" still back fires infrequently at just off running temp restarts). Which then tends to send idling up from a smooth 600 rpm to a slightly rough 900rpm... And these guys profess in their own marketing/advertising to be "LR & LPG experts"!?!

I will take the car back once more, as I just forked out $160 for their "proper" gas tune approx 3-4 weeks ago and they need to keep working until they get it right... but I ask again, who really is best for gas tuning and trouble shooting on LPG equipped P38's in Melbourne? Does anyone have any good experiences to share?

I had my gas vapour injection system on my 99 4.0 P38 fitted by my son in law who is trained in that area. He did an elegant job and it has had no issues at all. The only thing I have gone back for is the 1000 km service in which he ran the computer over it and made some small changes to the settings. He found and sorted out issues like plugs and leads and a few other things as well before he went ahead and did the installation.

I have to say that I am most impressed by the job he did. I know that what you're after is trouble shooting, but Ben is the precise careful sort of guy who will go thru things carefully and work them out.

His name is Ben Remminga and he is in Mooroolbark. Phone number is 03 9726 8602.

    Hi Willem,
I'll give him a call and thanks for letting me know, Ezygas were a bit easy with their explanation.

    cheers,

I bought the car at 200,000k with the EZYGAS only installed 6 months prior. It used to hunt when on gas and idle quite roughly. I fixed that by giving the engine a decent service. The gas then stopped altogether 2 months later, after it stalled twice. I then changed the leads, but as in my first post, was apparently a wire not connected.

After this recent service by Ezygas it is running alot better, though idles b/wn 800-1000rpm. Apart from the gas turning off when coasting or foot off the accelerator!

I've always been hesitant on gas for V8's but thought I'd be in the clear buying one already on gas.
