Starting Issues
Hi Guys,
I'm hoping that the wisdom and knowledge on this forum can help me solve a problem I have encountered today with my 2000 4.6 HSE.
Drove to work @ 7:30am - parked and locked the vehicle with key remote fob, everything normal.
I went out at 9.45(ish) car wouldn't start but cranked as normal (not battery related fault), "Ignition Tamper" displayed on info panel
finally got the car started playing with key and locking sequences (thought maybe Immobolizer not de-activating). During driving, the car " jerked" once then "Gearbox Fault" was displayed for 4-5 secs only. no other symptons
When I went to go home at 2:30pm same problem as before, but started after about 2 x 10 secs cranking.
Whilst driving the car towards the freeway it " jerked" once then again "Gearbox Fault" was displayed for 4-5 secs then the engine stopped but started immediately. Driving along the freeway going home, the car jerked again (once) but didn't stop, and wouldn't drop into top gear (stayed in 3rd gear)
I stopped the car, turned engine off, restarted and everything was normal again for the rest of the drive home.
Any clues??????????

A LR mechanic once told me that the Gearbox Fault comes up to scare the Bejesus out of the driver so they immediatley go and get it checked out.
With P38 MKI, I had it do it to me twice when going around a sharp right hand corner, (same corner both times) car just stopped dead. reset and started again no problem.
there is a link to this on RR.net
With P38MK II no problems at all,Though since then I have changed the battery, the fuse box and all the leads to and from.
Everyone else will say check your wiring with a Rave Cd and make sure everything is touching what it should be touching.
