Went out to Mount Joyce earlier for a bit of a ride around.

Did quite a lot of the tracks including the top section of widow maker, Big Bertha, Tuna Chunks, and Bovine Grove, then back up Worm Juice, followed by down Sergeants downhill.

Then messed around on the lower section of Scorpion, before heading back to the car.

Very happy with how it rides. I have been hitting a lot more of the jumps that I ever used to.

It was indeed a big week end for the Rune. Some pics from Daisy Hill yesterday:

    next change...

The Norco is coming apart... I have bought this frame (front mech and headset too) - should be on its way tomorrow.

Will chuck the Norco frame on ebay I think along with the CC headset, and possibly the Pike's seperately

I cant decided whether to sell those at the moment and buy some SID XX's or wind them down to 110mm or so. They are the Uturn air ones so probably the best version, but they are quite heavy.

I have also sold the blue Formula brakes (which almost entirely covered the cost of the vertex frame) as I couldn't stop them squealing and they needed adjusting every ride!

Hopes will replace them. Not sure why I even bothered with anything other than Hope.

I will also run this on probably a 2.1" UST tyre, but the rest of the drivetrain/wheels will be swapped from the Norco as its all only done about 250km's and is good stuff.

    progress update on the RM:

Waiting on the brakes now. In the end I have gone for a set of Formulas again, but this time RX's as they were on sale with rotors for 200$ from merlin cycles, which is less than half of the hopes. If I don't get on with these either I will swap again down the track.

Have also changed tyres to a set of 2.1 UST crossmarks for this. The minions can now be spares for the Banshee

Nice Vertex - I have one of those, superb handling bike, possibly the best I've ever owned. The pikes might be a bit of overkill though! Just bought a 29er Alu RM Element 970 earlier this year and that also manages the feat of mimicking a 26ers flickability to a very good degree.

My Element came with Formula R1X brakes and after a bit of fiddling on getting the setup perfect I can honestly say that they are the most powerful brakes I've ever used (Also if you need to shorten the hoses you can re use the barb by cutting off the olives and carefully cutting the line to get it out - new olive required to refit - Magura olives fitted on mine)

On another note, I'm not sure why anyone ever bothered with those Synergy wheels off road - one big stick incident and your walking....

Good timing! I took it out for a spin at lunch today as the brakes have arrived.

It does seem to handle nicely. I agree the Pikes are overkill, but I like the 20mm TA.

Its miles faster on the road than the others, but that's to be expected really, as it is on much lighter tyres, and I was running it locked out.

Need to shorten the rear brake hose (the front is ok) and bleed the front one as the lever uses almost all of its travel.

I have swapped the rear rotor for one of the 160's that came with the brakes.

Check out the Rocky Mountain forum over on MTBR, loads of info and pics to mull over. They're very addictive bikes, I wanted one since the age of 13 and I only got round to realising that about 6 years ago, I've not been disappointed with any I've had
