Have to get back out on the bikes....![]()
Turner 5-spot Prototype.
Built about 2001 as a lightweight Turner RFX to test the geometry and handling of the 5-spot.
I bought it off the test-rider and shipped it out to NZ end of 2003. I run 6" 6-pack rockers on the back, coil sprung with a custom valved Nixon on the front. It's horst link.
10 years old and all pivot bushings are original. I give them a clean and grease every year or so.
I've own bigger bikes, I own smaller bikes but this is the one that gets ridden everywhere. Here's a pic of me riding it about 7 years ago.
Check out the shoes.I had some pre-race brake issues and ran out of time to change.
Very nice bike Dougal. The 5spot is a nice looking frame.
The shoes are great
Headset turned up earlier. Cane Creek 110. Thankfully someone bought the wrong one so a bargain for me! Its a very very nicely made part.
Hopefully the correct stem will turn up this week.
Can't beat a 110 year warranty.![]()
Little more progress today. I have changed a few plans aswell. The formulas, and blue Straitline stem, chrome bars etc are now staying on this bike.
I cant go much further now as the only front mech i have is direct mount for the Banshee, and the Shifters are a pair of X0 2x10's which are a bit overkill for this aswell (which was suppoed to be a cheap project!)
Last few jobs for now are to tidy up the brake routings and so on, oh and I have the rear disc rotor on the wrong way around.
I'm actually quite happy with how the colours are looking.
Dougal, you probably will be unsuprised to learn! I have ordered some Hope Stealth M4 Tech Evo's for the Banshee. Merlin cycles had a 10% off sale and were about the cheapest online for the stealth versions anyway.![]()

Them tyres are rubbish Pete! Havn't even used em and they are flat on the bottom.
I rule!!!
2.4" of Pure FURY!!!
They are not rubbish because they are flat per-se.. its because they are Maxxis...
Latest pic.
I have fitted the x0 shifters now so all I need now is grips, a front mech, and a rear wheel skewer as I have borrowed that one to set it up from another bike. Everything apart from the front mech is on order.

IMHO the Minion DHF UST is one of Maxxis' better tyres, but getting on the heavy side for a trail bike. It sounds like you are not happy about them Pete. Do you have plans for something else?
I run DHF USTs on my DH bike, but WTB Dissent and WTB Prowler MX, ghetto tubeless'd on my Chameleon. They are Kevlar beaded and have thinner sidewalls so a good 300-odd grams lighter than the DHF UST.
James.
