Where to find a used MTB?

Any suggestions on where to find an entry-level used MTB? Just for general cruising around the streets and off-road trails when camping. For around $300 I figure I'm best off looking for a decent used bike than a crap new one.

Wow, there a bit higher price than what I owuld call "entry level"!

I'm only looking to spend around $300, given the amount of use it would (or wouldn't) get.

I bought an avanti mtb off ebay for $175[poo brown and yellow] and stripped it back to bear alloy with paint stripper when i got it home, awesome bike until a carbon fibre rear suspension frame turned up and the bug bites, keep an eye on gumtree as a lot of people dont know quality from crap, there is a huge difference in quality from a supermarket to bike shop bike

Gumtree seems to be to go these days. I found my bike on BikeExhange.com.au although that tends to have mostly dealer and higher end second hand. You can get some pretty good deals if you are patient and search the right keywords

How about this one? Bike | Bicycles | Gumtree Australia Caboolture Area - Caboolture | 1036140727. Apparently the back wheel is buckled, not sure how much that would cost to repair/replace. Reckon I should go have a look?

    Probably not!

What size do you need? small/med/lrg/xtra lrg?

Hardtail or rigid is going to be the only sensible option.

I would stay way from any cheap full suspension bike as well personally.

Cash converters is the go, Every time I go past one I check them out, I got my Norco Bush Pilot for $80 , it has Mavic wheels worth $350 each , its a keeper !!

I guess you could try your local Police Station and say your bike got knocked off... not so funny , I remember a bloke got charged for stealing bikes from Lilydale police stolen property 'lock up'

I can get this one for $350 from my Uncle's cycling addict - good deal if it's the right size? Probably overkill, but better than cheap crap.
