Hey mate
I don't actually have anything to do with the led's. I'm just a filmmaker. Your best best is pulling off your dash and seeing what type bulbs you have and ordering the same style in led's. Hence.. if they are 10mm wide and the slot type, then they are T10.. or 5mm wide is T5. Have a go and see what you come up with. ;)
With the white LEDs in your pic the red zone in the fuel gauge and temp are washed out - red colour not evident !
hey how do you remove the cable from the back of the speedo so easily in your vid? I cant work out how to remove it at all!
can someone give me a tip?
thanks
the connection at the back of the guage spins, but is not threaded, so do i just pull hard? i dont want to break it...
there does not seem to be any squeeze-release that i can see...
anyone??:(
Hey mate! Do not pull hard! The spinning white thing has a clip built in. You must sqeeze it as hard as you can at the point closest to the guage. It should just pop off then.. It can take a few attempts and you need to get your hand in just the right way to sqeeze evenly. If that doesn't work sqeeze along the length of the connection till you find the right spot.
Let us know how you go!
:)
I used this one when experimenting with mine.
Automotive & Marine dashboard LED Replacement Bulbs
I only got 1 green one, but it ended up working much better than other colours or the ones from Jaycar.
Other colours than green didn't seem to work well at all. I think the socket they plug into are shaded green already, so white should work, but the green ones look great.
I'm about to order some more soon - postage is a bit expensive, so best to do a group buy if you live close to others who want them. (hint, hint Vlad ;))
Also, www.dealextreme.com have plenty of them, but they might be a bit hit and miss.
i ended up using long needle nose pliers to grip it and pop it off.
no worries.
i used white ones with 4 little "SMD" TYPE LED's on them very bright.
from virtual village on ebay. shipped direct from china.
very cheap. got a pack of ten for some silly cheap price. postage was not too dear.
only my two standard gauges (speed and fuel) have the green lense inside, so the other two have bright white lighting behind them.
the White LED's make the green ones a much lighter aqua colour.
I also put some super bright SMD LED bulbs in my front park lights, which were dull dull yellow before, hardly visible, and I also did my tail/brake lights with red LED bulbs, because the standard bulb was continually melting it's housing and becoming dissconnected and stop working.
Thanks Bushman83.
I've just ordered 6 white globes for my Defender 200 tdi 1993.
I too fancied the red (preserves night vision), but given the last 2 or 3 jobs I started turned into 10 jobs, I think I'll take the safe option.
Cheers ... Shaun
