Cheers Sean. I'm slowly getting up to speed with Land Rovers finer points. The nitty gritty, grease and grime is a no brainer, but serial numbers and model variations are still on my research list. I'll check there tomorrow.

Well.... I've scratched and scraped and there is no obvious chassis ser number. All the info I have read seems to show the number on the sides of the rails. I have checked around the spring hanger Sean and haven't been able to uncover the number. I'm sure I must be missing it... but I checked both left and right rear spring hangers and the open areas have no numbers. But I shall keep scouring that backend to find it.
But while I do... here are some more pics......
Also too, I did a bit of a Large item inventory and I have also uncovered 2 diff centres( unsure if front or back as yet), 2 gear boxes ( one with the transfer case still attatched), what looks like a 4 cyl upper gasket kit, 2 copper head gaskets t/s 4 cyl, spare brake drums, generators, 3 dash cluster surrounds. I am going to pull all the bits out and inividually photo the stuff and maybe I can get some idea of what I should keep and what I can share around.
My plan only involves the ute. So everything else that won't be needed will have to be re-homed as Space is an absolute premium for me. But I'll keep adding things to this thread.
I will take a photo of where the chassis no is...left hand rear spring hanger just above the spring

OK...now that my bro-in-law's wedding is all done and dusted....I can get back to the Landy...
I have one last stupid question though........ is the number on the actual spring hanger is it? It's just that I have scrubbed the chassis rails around the LHR spring hangers...inside and out.... and both sides (although now clean) still don't have a number to show. Does the number follow the chassis line....because if it does, the metal white ant may have grazed the number off. While scrubbing, I have uncovered a couple ares of particular interest for a grind and fisch plate.
How well is the stamping too? Is it shallow stamping or a good hard ol fassioned smash the number through the other side of the rails kinda stamp?
I get the time to ask the questions while I am... not at home, so what I get from you guys, I take with me to use. I really do appreciate your help though.
SORRY....forgot to take a photo..will do tomorrow arvo.....pester me till I do

Wow....I tell you what....I have hit the jack pot. I have found the numbers. Thanks to all who have been helpful and pointed me (more like held my hand and pointed my finger) for they are so hard I scrubbed even harder on the hangers and came up with 27800373 with a funny backward 6 after it. The other bitsa had 34701187A. Does this have any significance apart from me now knowing what to look for?![]()
