    Rear Tyre carrier

Ive been working on my rear carrier over the weekend.Ive got most of it welded up but just trying to think of ideas for the latch on the passenger side.I can now fit my 33's on the back,it does mean opening another door, but them's the breaks i guess.
    Cheers Mat.

    G'day, Matman,
That's my wheel carrier kit you have there. Can you tell me exactly what you don't like about the latch, in which way is it too big. I appreciate any feedback I get on the kits, good or bad, as it just goes towards making better gear.
Out of about 120 kits that I've sold, only one guy has said the latch handle sticks out a little too far for what he was making, but I'm pleased to say the feedback in general has been really great.

    Cheers, Murray

    Murray,

A big handle is a strong handle, I reckon your gear is the ducks intestines.

I think they look fine on something like a defender or pootrol, for the chunky look. But this is just my opinion i think the overall dimensions are to big for a Disco.I just dont see the need for something that heavy.Maybe if i had a 36" tyre swinging on the back but not a 33".Im probably wrong,im just going to make something smaller.Ive given the handle to a mate who is going to put it on his county,so its going to good use lol.I do like the kit,i wouldnt have bought it if i didnt like it, as its great value for money.I was going for something like this-https://hicountryoffroad.3dcartstore...r-II_p_26.html

Hey Stevo, hope you ahve access to the right gear to do this job

I have seen some disasters by not using the correct tool. I ended up making one and using a BIG bar to undo. Refitting I had to borrow a 3/4" drive torque wrench to get to the 425Nm...There is no keyway etc, and not on a taper so they are VERY tight.

No worries Mat, it just doesn't suit your project then.........that's cool.

I've also been using a latch similar to what's in your link on my 130 carriers. These are still a fairly big heavy duty latch, so probably wouldn't suit you either, but I have seen similar smaller ones at an industrial suppliers. You can get them in different configurations, like flat pull or 90*.

This is one of the smaller 90* type..........

This is the bigger flat one I use.........

Rijidij I didn't know about your kits until this thread. They look just what I need, when I get around to building my rear bar I will definitely look at your kits again.

    Cheers.
