    Touring Awning

Mounted a 2.5x2.0 m awning today! Man it's heavy, also have a mosi net to clip underneath which will be our sleep out shelter up north! I'll post pics tomorrow.

Also picked up the 'Maxtrax' I ordered. I'm kind of wondering what I was thinking when I ordered them now? they are also quite heavy and just seem like big pieces of plastic taking up room! Might Sell them before the trip?? I'll have to see how we go once we are getting packed.

    Hi,
years ago a cobber built out a similar sized van for a camper.
He made the seats fold back to become part of the bed. (not a double, he was travelling with a friend)
One trick he used, which may suit your build, was to have over head storage for small light weight items. This was made from string netting, about 15mm mesh, about 1.5m long and about 0.4m wide. This was fastened to the roof in about 6 places and had elastic edges to hold things in.
Worked well for things like current maps, sunnies, note book and pen, sunburn cream etc which just needed to be handy, but not in the way.
    cheers

The seats in my Dormobile are quite a clever design, not only do they make two single beds or a double bed but the front double seat flips to become rear facing. This allows a table to be erected to create a cozy dining area I'm going to try and reproduce these and fit them into my County.

Here's an illustration of how they work

    More stuff.

Hey hey! I have finished the kitchenette (sort of) well the structure is all built. I have extended the floor/bed right to the back seats we have not given away any comfort in the cab (not that there is much to give away) for long driving hours. To mount the rail for the floor I took one of the door hinge bolts out and put a longer one in and hung it off the pillar. worked quiet nicely!! I'm very happy with my under bed stowage. I also think the springs are starting to work with a little weight in it. It's been a rigid pig of a ride unloaded
The Awning is on, it was no real fuss to put, up but is definitely not a one man job.

    Project gull wing

Ok, I have received the delivery of the gull wing. It seems they have changed the design a little. As I saw a post that MikeIE had put up showing his install which used the original window frame with a rubber supplied. Mine looks 100 times easier ( which is good because mike looks to be far more skilled and patient than I) as it comes with a frame already tapped with double sided tape on it, with the hinge holes already on the frame. From memory mikes hinges had to be fitted to the body of the vehicle, thank Jebus I didn't have any of this mucking around. The whole job can be done with a 6mm drill bit, two 10mm and a 13mm spanners we had this installed in under two hours.

It's the only way to save a $$ or two. I build bathrooms for a living so I'm handy and used to using a wide variety of tools and careful with my measurements. My learning curve on my vehicle has been AMAZING and my confidence working on my truck is sooo much better. Taking on the steering and suspension myself with the help of a friend who is very familiar with landrovers is the best thing I ever did.

I have also used one of these Milford meshes. I only use it at night though to throw clothes and other light stuff on. Don't like the idea of using while driving - stop suddenly and could get hit on head etc.
