hi all ,as an alternative to and a less visible option than a barrett/codan autotune in a defender ive installed a sgc 237 antenna coupler and whip under the drivers wing of my td5 and thought id pop a few pics up.
the first pic shows the second hole drilled in guard for the whip prior to drilling mount bolt holes for the tuner.The instalation is to be covered by wing guards wich stiffen the guard top and with a 3 mm aloy plate under whip base.
holes for tuner drilled and tuner turned upside down and bolted to slightly countersunk holes in guard {with high voltage lead to whip facing drivers seat}
Run earth from tuner and control lead for codan{in this case} into car. I ran it along the top of the chasis rail and into rear seat area of the car
pop rivet protector onto guard after drilling for antenna bases{car radio and hf whip} using black{ish}rivets for colourbond fencing {bunnings} . I used a peice of 3 mm aluminum under the whip base to further stiffen the guard. drill a hv lead sized hole in the plastic insert on the guard and run lead ,bound in self amalamating tape,through and solder eyelet to the end and bolt it to antenna and
bingo ur done.
these units are sealed from dust and submersible {i forget for how many hours and to what depth, but if youre car was at guard depth for that long the tunner isnt youre real problem},they operate between -30 c to 70 c...
