Hey mate. I really wanted something that was the full width due to the design of the mounts I was considering. Also, from my experience, my fold out 120w panels I previously used were not enough to keep my battery topped up enough when camping in one spot for 10 days running my engel. I figured since I'll be using lights, laptops and camera gear while travelling I'll just go for the big panel to be sure I keep my secondary charged.Quote:

That is a top idea on the panel mount for the roof.

and good choice on going bigger on the panel. I think having a good 50% more then you need is a good policy to have (some might say it's a waste of money though), that being even more true when the panel is fixed down like yours is.
most of the time my fixed panel will only put out ~2/3rds what my fold out one will give me due to not facing the sun at the optimum angle
I've had a 80W solar panel mounted on my 110 for over 23 years, and for about 5 years prior on my Series 3 S/wagon. It has and still is giving good service, just a wash down every now n then

ps I also have a spare 80W that can be connected into the circuit as well,,. and the trailer well I've owned it for almost 30 years,,.
Thus far the panel always seems to be charging well enough regardless of the direction i'm facing, but yes.. having it bolted down does limit me if i'm shacked up in one place.. I may take my fold out 120w along if I have the space as a back up.

I installed a pair of RDX LED rear brake/tail lights to replace the original ones as my bulbs kept rattling loose. Sometimes both would fall out at the same time. Bought them off ebay from the UK. Works incredibly well! Highly recommended it! :)
Do you find 80W enough? What are you running off it? I ask because I'm thinking of doing something similar soon to run a 35 litre fridge and am wondering if 80 will be enough.Quote:

I've had the guys complain about my lights, or lack there of,, I've been wondering if I should go with LED,,
I bought a full set of LED lights from RDX via ebay and I'm very happy with them. I do however have a tdi and found them a direct replacement, including the screw holes and electrical connections, so your need to re-wire and drill holes has me confused!
