You can save a lot of work by a simple modification to allow the jack to work upside down. All you need to do is run a hose from the filler plug in the side of the jack to a reservoir. To fill and bleed, lay the jack on its side, filler plug uppermost fill the reservoir, pump the jack to full extension adding fluid to the reservoir if necessary. Jack is now full and ready to install and work upside down. Saves building that bridge across the pillars.

"Saves building that bridge across the pillars."
The same bridge that brings the suck allowing bulk movement between the press head and what ever it is you want to press

Every time I use my chinapress I curse the bridge slop and dodgy soft press head and vow to rip it apart and rebuild it - its on the list

Go with Brians' plumbing change and make the bottle jack piston the press head then just weld the base to the upper frame cross member

    Great tip Brian.
Does the reservoir have to be above the jack during normal operation, or is the same height good enough as long as it doesn't suck air?

Above is best but should be ok as long as it doesn't suck air. If it sucks air you need a bigger reservoir or to fix the leak.

Edit:-Sorry, not thinking clearly. Sundaymorningitis. The fluid level at all times must be higher than the pump section of the jack. So mount the reservoir above the jack on the top beam or similar position.

Yes Brian, that thought was considered, we already had the jack, so made it this way as the jack is removable as it is used for chassis straighting

    The final product...

Don't weld it. Use four bolts so you can remove it easily if it needs repairs or if you need a jack for some other job.
