    300tdi Range Rover Classic Conversion

    Hi All,

Well I have decided to bite the bullet and start work on converting my 93 Range Rover Classic Vogue SE to a 300Tdi. The original 3.9 V8 is getting tired with over 390,000kms on the clock, the BW transfer case is ceased so time to rebuild.

The last couple of weeks I've spent time getting all the parts I need for the conversion, and I'm sure that I'll still be chasing some parts as I progress with the build.

First thing first was to find a suitable 300Tdi motor and I was fortunate enough to find a person on this forum that had a 86 Range Rover with a 300Tdi motor already installed with a LT77 gearbox and a LT230 Transfer Case. (Pictures attached.)

So to follow on from the last post.

I spent the last weekend pulling the 300Tdi out of the donor RRC, the motor came out with out a problem.

Another purchase last week was an auto gearbox to mate up to the 300Tdi as the V8 Auto gearbox has a different bell housing and gearing. As I did that someone informed me that I had to change the engine back plate as the auto and manual use a different plate.

Next will be to remove the LT77 and TC out of the donor RRC and cut off the 300Tdi engine mounts so I can get rid of it to make way for my RRC to complete the conversion.

I'll keep on updating the is thread as I progress, but it looks like my weekends for the month are going to be busy.

I open to everyone on the forum to offer any tips or tricks or things to lookout for doing this conversion.

If you need a hand just call out.
I've got the timing pin kit if you need to do the belt.

    Hi All,

Thanks for the posts and offers for help. Ended up going away for Easter so the project put on the back burner for a few weeks.

    So where I'm up to........

I finally moved my RR Vogue SE into my garage so I could prepare to get the V8 Engine out, I ended up removing the Engine, Gearbox and TC out in one go. I removed the front core by drilling out the spot welds and that helped a lot in getting it out.

So I ended up cutting the V8 Engine Mounts out last weekend, and I also got a local metal fabrication company (Stealth Welding - www.stealthwelding.com.au ) to fabricate the 300tdi engine mounts, they did a fantastic job turned out better than the originals.

So next weekend I'm planning on getting the engine, gearbox and TC installed, I'll have to get a mobile welder to come out to weld in the engine mounts as I don't trust my welding skills.

So the list after that will be do get the wiring sorted, I need to drain the fuel tank and modify the filler neck and hopefully after that I might see if the beast will fire up!

I have both the twin of your rangie (93 Vogue SE 3.9) and a 94 soft-dash here with factory 300tdi. But ZF auto.

Let me know if you need any photos etc.
