    Jaycar Dual Map Programmable Ignition

I was browsing the Jaycar catalogue and came across this kit. It is a programmable ignition system that has the ability for dual maps ignition maps making it suitable for dual fuel vehicles. Unfortunately not a lot of information is supplied on line.

Its coil driver Ignition Coil Driver - Jaycar Electronics

Seems a cheap solution but I am wary of "kits".

Has anyone used these and how did you find them - also how do you programme the module - it does not seem to be explained in the description.

    Cheers

If they are the same Jaycar kits as I used long time ago, they are very good. I had acquired an unwanted reputation for sorting out supercharged cars and I was brought a HQ ute fitted with a turbo'ed 186 in virtual full race tune that was putting out 16 psi boost when fully angry and detonating wildly. Had already destroyed pistons twice. First turbo engine I ever played with. No waste gate or blow off valve and the owner wanted to keep maximum performance, drive it daily, and use it at the drags. Right, miracles we do daily, impossibilities take a while. I first made a boost retard/vacuum advance canister for the distributor which improved things out of sight but still detonating not so badly at full load. I wanted to fit a blow-off valve but the owner wanted to keep max. boost. Next was the Jaycar kit using a Carter knock sensor in conjuction with an adjustable pressure sensor to switch to the boost retard timing. Success! A mate is an electronics technician and he put the kit together. I hate automotive electronics and go out of my way to avoid them. A session on Steve Dixon's dyno had the two advance/retard curves tuned nicely. I can't remember how you fiddle with the thing. This was thirty years ago. That ute could out-accelerate a Porsche 911, burn rubber at each gearshift. Destroyed gearboxes too.

Edit:- memory returns. The kits used then had a numeric keypad for setting the parameters.

I've found the two silicon chip kits I've played with before to be very simple and reliable, one an adjustable temp sensor switch, the other an adjustable voltage sensor switch. Both were purchased through Jaycar. This one would obviously be more complicated and use a MCU but I don't think you will have issues with quality.

Worth getting a hold of the magazines before forking out the money. You will also need to buy the hand controller to tune it I think.

Hi there, I have a kit (and hand controller) already built that I wouldn't mid 'getting rid of'. this one has been modded to work with the microtech EMS.

I updated to a greddy or something that was at a giveaway price from a mate.

Let me know if you are interested.

    David.
