I've seen worse gears still running.
officially I back bearmans call on this one but if I had to Id install those parts as "Get you home in a hurry on a budget" fix
I've seen far worse still getting the job done
the tell for "excessive syncro" blocking first is the back pressure on a downshift from second to first with a single clutch change. if you select first at the halt with the engine off and then holding the clutch in move out of and back into first and have less pressure its the grip ring as bearman describes doing the work of the baulker to early.
IF the throw feeling is more of a "bounce back" pressure then your grip ring is slipping excessively an the baulk ring is doing the work of the grip ring and your starting to bounce off of the engagement dogs.
in both cases proper double clutching will prolong the life of the box and poor double clutching will shorten it.
