Lapping valves is not too bad a job if you do a bit of research. The biggest issue is the lapping paste getting where it shouldn't.
A friend and I machined up some pins to use for removing the valve guides from the cylinder head. While we were machining the pins we had the cylinder head in the robowash to warm it up/give it a bath
was interesting as it was the first time i have used a lathe, after the initial fear i got into a good rhythm and then handed the final touches over to him
we used a 1.5 tonne press to press out the valve guides. To make the valves dead straight for the press we also had 20mm pipe cut to 60mm long and then welded a 16mm washer to one end to protect the face of the cylinder head.
We then placed the pipe under the cylinder head to catch the valve guide
(will get a photo showing the set up once i get all the tools we made from work, it was done at work so no cameras allowed)
Now with one person holding the cylinder head steady and the other person operating the press we pressed them out, all up 20 minutes work.
here are the dimensions for each pin as the exhaust and inlet are different sizes

A: 13.7mm dia
B: 90mm long
C: 20mm long
D: 8.4mm dia
RIGHT PIN:
A: 12.9mm dia
B: 90mm long
C: 20mm long
D: 7.6mm dia
