    Divorced LT230 options

    Hello all

A few links to examples of different engines with divorced transfer cases..

    1. Ford Navistar diesel into an extended 110 chassis - out to 130?

    [Land Rover] Defender 130 Reulsport

    2. Something with an NV4500 with divorced transfer case

He already has the rakeway shaft. But i think mudouse is looking at ways to remote mount his lt230 to his isuzu gearbox

He keeps slipping out of the Isuzu enthusiast arena...must be the mud under the mouse

From other posts I assume you have successfully bridged the gap between gearbox and transfer case with the donut/rakeway frankendrive unit ?

The problem is now how to support the gearbox and the transfer case?

Weld a three sided case that joins the gearbox and transfer case together in much the same way as other adapter cases have, but leave bottom with removable hatch plate for inspection/repair of coupling - will keep grit off input seal. You've got a backing plate being made to fit the back of the gearbox - steel or aluminium? Too late to have it altered?

    Then to add more stability...

My MSA gearbox has four little feet underneath, two drilled and tapped. Drill and tap the other two. Make one large or two smaller mounts that attaches the box little feet to the removable chassis brace.

The transfer case has one mount on the drivers side. Would be nice to add two or three more beacing points, but looks difficult. There are two thick ribs on the side of the casing, the passenger side, next to the input shaft. Take the input shaft out and feel the wall at that point to appreciate the thickness. Tap the two ribs. Make up mounts that join that side to the chassis (bolt or weld).

I thought the links were more appropriate in this thread rather than the Isuzu bit - because of the Ford engine and whatever the other one is.

They do show some good ideas, but a longer wheelbase (than 100in) is essential.

As for mine, no - still waiting for the machinist to finish his magic.

I would prefer to support the Isuzu gearbox where it was designed to be (from the top/centre) but the transfer case gets in the way.

Are you worried that if you don't use the original gearbox overhead mounting system that things will go wrong?

And, apart from the transfer case hassle, will the overhead brackets hit the floor or trans tunnel?
