    76 Series 3 Wagon rebuild

Thought I might record my S3 resto and this looked like the place to do it. Having always wanted an old landi and for some reason I ended up on gumtree (I think I'd been watching the bush tucker man on youtube) I found this worn out wagon going for next to nothing and that was it, I was out to look at it the first chance I got and it became mine.

The biggest reason was that it was all there and untouched, slightly broken all there true, but no one had half restored it and gotten bored. Everything was where it was supposed to be and nothing was missing, apart from the headlights and some steel that had long since rusted off of the doors. The last thing I wanted was to be trying to chase down parts one at a time when I suddenly realized that I'm missing something. So for a few hundred bucks and a hire trailer it became mine.

Now I'm not planning to do a factory rebuild and if anyone starts counting rivets on it they're probably going to be disappointed. I want it to be straight'ish, de-rusted, driveable and a whole lot cleaner. I swear it sat an inch higher once i blasted all the mud and dirt off of it.

But enough of my yammering, lets get to the good part, the pics

Oh and before anyone mentions it. Ya its going to be a lot of work but that's what I wanted, I find things that are normal and just work properly all the time kinda boring. So I figured an old landi should suit me fine
Working on a Land Rover is a strange thing, its a mix of "Why on earth is it put together like that" and "Who thought that was a good idea at the time"...

But you would still stab someone if they tried to take it from you

And now to skip ahead a bit, here's how its looking at the moment.

in pic 3 its amazing what you find the the back of an old landi
In the last pic does anyone know the legality of chopping the bar running behind the seats and bracing it down to the floor to create a walk thru?

You would have to discuss this with an engineer, as the bar supports the 'B' pillar and hence the seat belts, and supports the seat backs. There are adaptations to replace the bulkhead in two door Series Landrovers, but they would not be a bolt-in job for this task.

This was managed in the 110/Defender, so it should be possible, but the first step would probably be to replace the seat box (and possibly the 'B' pillar) with one from a 110 (pretty much bolt in, but largely steel not alloy) and the seats with 110 or defender ones. (note that the seat mounting changed from two bolts at each mount, bolt in on Series seat box, to single bolt in 1987, with thicker pushbutton doors).

I thought it would be a lot of mucking about when you really can just step over the bar, I might leave it for the moment and have a look at it later on.
    cheers

The rebuild is still going well, nearly all the body work is off and apart from the floor, the firewall and the windscreen. Interior is striped.

Nearly all the parts that have been taken off have been cleaned up and primed/painted ready to go back on and now sit in the ever growing pile of finished parts. Still hunting for a new set of rear passenger doors thou. Its too late to take good pics of it so pics to follow.

The Rebuild is not dead. I'm down to just a chassis and firewall now. My camera has gone MIA so no pics until I can remember where I left it as my phone camera is rubbish. So pics to come... at some time, hopefully soon.
