Paul if you don't already have one there is a manual for the v8 in the market place for sale for $30. Would worth going for.
On the carby issue I will check my performance tuning manual and see if there is anything there. Can you outline the symptoms again?
Great, thanks for letting me know mate.
Symptoms are:
Very difficult to start. Tried with choke everywhere, all the way out, half, full. No throttle, pumping the throttle etc.
Once it does start, stalls unless choke is 3rd to half out until it gets warm (normal I guess)
Once it is warm all is well.
I think it may be too lean on start up, so am going to look at the choke cable and see that it is doing what it is meant to.

Bit of an update. Pictures to come soon.
I have taken the interior out (mostly) and continued with the sound proofing. Jing ping lined everywhere with acoustic underlay everywhere, and extra stuff on the firewall.
The car is also starting more easily now. Not sure why since I didn't do anything... But it usually starts on say the 3rd or 4th try.
I stuffed up BIG TIME and completely forgot I had the trailer attached from the day before and whilst reversing out of a driveway jacknifed and did a fair bit of damage to the drivers rear quarter panel. Was shattered when it happened but I bashed what I could back in place and made a checkerplate cover to go over it and painted it black. The outcome of a crappy situation has turned out ok, but I still wish it never happened.
I also converted all lights to RDX LED and headlight globes to JW Speaker LED globes.
The kit looks awesome and is super bright. As always, I must have stuffed up somewhere because all indicators flash... As in I signal left or right but the hazards go. The weird thing is the side that I am signalling flashes brighter than the other side (but the other side still flashes noticeably). I checked all of the wiring and there is no visible short. Each indicator has a power and a ground. I don't know where to look next...
Hi Paul,
Love your build. Makes me wish my 110 was a V8, and like most V8 builds makes me want to start my own!
That JW Speaker product looks great! can you comment on the results?
I can't find the product on the JW Speaker website though.
Keep up the great work!
Thanks mate! The JW speaker globes are outstanding on first impression. Little bit of fiddling around to fit them but they work with very little modification.
They are very bright, and white (not blue at all). Yet to use them properly but good first impressions. I have a picture below comparing old globes to new.

Hi Paul,
My County lights did exactly the same thing when I fitted RDX LEDs.
After checking for bad earths etc I tried three different LED flasher relays, but in the end I fitted resistors to the two rear indicators and that fixed everything.
I've fitted RDX LEDs to Defenders without this issue, so I guess there's something different in the older County wiring.
Cheers, Murray
You haven't stuffed up. The indicator warning light earths through the bulbs on the opposite side. This isn't a problem with incandescent bulbs as the tiny current through the warning light bulb isn't enough to light them up, however with LEDs it is enough and they will light up. Installing load resistors creates a low resistance path for the current to flow to earth that isn't through the LEDs, and will probably be the easiest way out of your problem.
I removed the bull bar and winch whilst I figure out a solution. Looks better without the stupid alloy bar

I had a massive stuff up and forgot I had the trailer attached and jackknifed.... damage to the rear quarter can be seen in the pictures. I can't bare to part with the amount of money to get it fixed properly so I bashed it out as best I could and made a checkerplate cover to hide it...

I also installed RDX LED lights and JW Speaker LED headlight globes. Awesome pieces of kit. VERY bright. As posted before, I had the issue of all indicators flashing and as suggested this was fixed by removing the indicator light in the dash. There is an LED globe that fixes the problem.

Another weird issue I have is with the original relay they flash very quickly (as to be expected). With the RDX relay that came in the kit only the left side flashes (right may flash occasionally) but sometimes nothing happens. I have turned the RDX relay adjuster everywhere and nothing seems to fix it. Not sure what the go is, hopefully it is just a busted relay.. for now I have fast indicators...
I am also continuing with the sound proofing. Ping Jing everywhere, and other sound insulation materials from carbuilders.com.au. Time consuming process, mainly cleaning and wiping down everything. Applying doesn't take too long at all. Cutting to shape takes a while and a bit of guess work.
While I was there I took apart the dash and am tidying up a lot of the wiring.
I will hopefully have the front completes soon and I will be cutting new carpets out of black marine carpet from clarke rubber.
As far as how the car is running it is better, still a bit hard to start but not like it used to be. Need to spend more time driving it to find out.
Oh, while I am at it, how do remove the lower part of the dash? I have removed all obvious scres but it still feels very firmly in place?
