Accidental Project TD5
Hi everyone;
I recently bought a 2000 model defender 110 xtreme. I've wanted a defender for a long time so when this came up cheap i had to buy it.
I was expecting to have to fix a few things but every time I have it on the hoist (I'm an apprentice mechanic) I spot another thing that needs fixing. As a result I've given in to the realisation that I've bought a project car/rolling restoration.
My ultimate goal is to have it able to tackle tough tracks and tour comfortably.
Since buying it, I've replaced:
-Radiator hoses, heater hoses and coolant
-Every oil and filter
-Serpentine belt
-Injector harness
-A few oil seals
-Rear lower control arm bushes
-Rear a-frame ball joint and bushes
I've also added an APT steering guard and front diff guard because I couldn't resist Ben's goodies.
Lots still to come over many weekends. I love the car and can't wait to get it back into fighting fit condition
Here she is coming out of the bushes on my first off road outing in it

Today I took the scrub bars/side steps off to modify them slightly. Taking the bull bar off soon to clean it up and remove some rust.
Also removed the spider from the snorkel head that kept making webs everywhere

Reason: Forgot about the spider

Hey mate,
Awesome choice with the td5 110, personally I think that the td5 is very under-rated. People bemoan the electronics but its a very simple robust engine. Ive seen and experienced all sorts of operator errors that would spell the end for an inferior engine or an inferior 4x4 but these defenders keep plugging.
Keep us posted with more!

Today I found just how badly the 265/75R16 tyres that the previous owner put on rub the rear upper spring mount.
My brother's D1 in the reflection

Been a bit quiet lately, but today I:
Extended all breathers to high up in the engine bay
Replaced the multiple hoses from the snorkel to the air box with one hose
Put the side steps/scrub bars back on.
Lot's of work will get done over summer when I've saved up a bit more money

Haven't updated this in a while.
Recently I've finished replacing every suspension bush with super pro (drives way better now) and given the interior a good clean out (no more spiders in it now I hope).
Hopefully before christmas I'll have fitted a new driver's seat back, heavy duty front springs, heavy duty track rod and drag link, new drive flanges and a few other small things
