The weight of it as a bare bones rolling chassis wouldn't be very much.
I assume it's the plywood interior that brings the weight up.
My parents had a similar sized Millard in the late 1960's, but it had wrap around corner windows.

    Cheers, Mick.
All the frame is all aluminium, the light zinc you see is where H altered the wheel arches.

All the walls are hollow, the sheet is glued to a frame, even the kitchen bench is hollow like this...

More of today's work...Some more cupboards to come and of course the doors and draws, but the bulk of the fitout is done.

Nice job you guys are doing but i have to ask and by no means is this meant to offend, but why put so much effort/time and money into an old van ?
I understand the because we can but in the end the exterior will still look like an old van ?

That’s the whole point Nick - it still looks like an old van. IMO and those others that restore classic vans these oldies are far better looking than new vans.

Just like restoring a series Land Rover - we do it because we love it.

I’m just starting to restore my second classic van - a 1971 Viscount - even older than the Franklin - because I much prefer the look of these. 1971 Millard Caravan Rebuild1971 Millard Caravan Rebuild.

Much cheaper too to buy then restore than to buy something already done by others and you get exactly what you want. 1971 Millard Caravan Rebuild

Exactly what Gav said. I want the old 1971 look outside but 2018 on the inside. Though H is thinking he should have built a 5th wheeler, like he originally planed before he got sick. Besides this way we have everything we like, new vans have short beds for a start H's is 2000mm long, mine 1900mm. You may get to see the finished result next year when we come to Vic.

H is doing the fitting of lights etc. It is all 12 volt except for 3 power points, outside, in kitchen and under the bed for a battery charger.

I better not show Yvonne all of this or she’ll get ideas about what the Viscount could look like... (If I had Harry’s Skills...) 1971 Millard Caravan Rebuild

We already have a LG 360w 60 Cell Neon R household solar panel and so far 2 Fullriver 12V 120AH battery's though "Springers" suggested we have 4, we will see how we go with 2 as they are extremely heavy.
