    Rewiring of Series SWB Diesel

I have a very modified Landrover Series3 SWB Diesel that needs either rewiring or a major revision. Everything works but so much wiring has been added it is a bit of a mess specially behind the dashboard. I have been advised that for reliabilty on outback trips and so on rewiring or similar should be done. I need an auto electrician in Melbourne who would like to earn a few thousand dollars pocket money, tax free, cash for some evening / weekend work. I need a 'fixed' price quote and I can email a description of my vehicle to anyone interested. I can not afford to pay an hourly rate. The autoelectrician should be able to 'think outside the square',be thorough and competent and thrive on challenges. I can not do the work myself but I may be able to assist if that is more help than hindrance!
If anyone is interested or can recommend any one please email me at: richard@series3.com

Hi Richard, before you start rewiring from scratch, try doing some snooping around the web to see if there are some ready made looms available for you vehicle.

Start by asking here and also have a look at some of the British sites.

If you can get a loom, you can then either fit it yourself or get an auto electrician to do it but either way, it will cost you heaps less than what you expect it to cost you now.

    Cheers and best of luck.

    G'day Richard,
go to google and type in VINWIRE, they do a make a wiring loom replacement for Land Rover diesel but it is for the S2/2A, the business has recently changed hands and they may be able to make a loom to suit the S3 diesel. The website thay have needs to be updated as they are now located at Bellingen Nth coast NSW.
Their product is first class, I have one and I know other people who have them also, cost about $370.00. Any auto electrician should be able to put in any additions needed to make a S2/2A loom upgraded to S3 without much trouble, anyway hope that helps in some way cheers mate Dennis

    S111 Rewire

    Hello Richard,
I had my S111 rewired by Kevin hicks here in Qld and he did as per L/R's specs. All colour coded and he did a magnificent job.Previously, my S111 was working with house wire!!!.Stripped tonothing and started over.Kevin is a member of AULRO and also has a a 11A ex army which he re built. He has a lot of info and suggestions and is very fussy about how it goes together.Diagrams and ideas on the best way to approach it he would surely help.
Im sure Kevin wouldnt mind if I gave you his number.
    God Luck

    G'day Richard
I thank Dave K for the glowing reference Sorry, but I don't live in Melbourne, I would try to get somebody that is familiar with Series 3's wiring to have a look at it, as they would probably have an idea as to what wires are "extra's" if you havn't got a Series workshop Manual get hold of one, I would recommend the "Haynes Series 2,2a,3,4cylinder petrol " as a general workshop repair book, the only other book that I can think of is the Brooklands book OWM-895 "Land-Rover Series 2, 21/4 petrol, 2a Petrol & Diesel, Series 3 Petrol & Diesel.

Seeing that Dave K has generiously given out my phone No if you contact me (after 7.30 pm most evenings) and give me you postal address I will photo copy the wiring diagragm for the Series 3 Diesel to you
It is all colour coded with the legend at the bottom of the page.

Otherwise, I suggest you do what Dinty suggested, get a wiring loom from Vinwire. as an auto nelect that does not know what he is doing can cost hundreds up to $?000 most will say that it can't be done as they don't want to
