Well I have finally decided to turn yellow pezza into a Ute. I have started to acquire most of the parts such as the rear cab section, Ute tray rear door, and other little bits. The only part I have not got yet is the roof section, But I have decided to use the front slanted style roof section off my SWB hard top, and fabricate the back section of the roof to match with the rear cab. I think the standard ute roofs are to flimsy, and the dome shape dose not match the rest of the bodywork too well. the other reason is the overhead pannel i made will also not fit the dome roof. So all in all I think there will be less work involved in modding a standard hardtop roof. I will post pics of some of the parts I have started on shortly. If anyone has any suggestions for such a conversion, don't hesitate to post. stay tuned!

At the moment having it as a Ute will be more useful to me, I will still keep the hard top if I ever decide to change it back again, with all the parts at hand it only takes a few hours to replace any way. I was planing to take the windscreen off some time soon to fix up a few small rust spots before they get out of hand.

So far the only bit i have had to buy is the Gal. steel base for the cab roof, only paid $10 for it anyway. I will also buy new rubbers and windows etc. shortly as well.

When i removed all the cr@p I had in the back, and took out the false floor and water tank, she went like the clappers, probably about 200kg of weight taken out. Can't wait for when I take the roof off too. the water tank will go back in, along with a easly removable false floor. I might install the fuel tank out of my SWB in the back as well. hummm, That will be like 220L of diesel. I might almost be able to make it down to Cooma and back on one load of fuel, ha ha![]()
Yep your right about it getting chipped, I realized that after i painted it, I will put a rubber washer on the pin, and one on the back of the ring it fits onto, that should stop it getting too bad. I have to say it was a lot easier than i expected to put the latch mounts in. Drilled out the rivets, tapped the old plate down and out, tapped the new one back in again and its done.
Wasn't mirrortone i used, but it would have been a better paint to use. I could have even got some from work tooIt dose look a bit like mirrortone because of the camera flash.

Did you need special rivets to suit the LR or are standard rivets fine ?

Hey mate. The rivets i was useing are just standard sealed aluminium. Unfortunatly the air riviter could not quite handle the 6.4mm ones, so i had to go down a size.
They don't really match the Landy ones perfectly but it dosn't bother me too much. The air riveter is only one from supercheap but it dose the job. If you want a matching rivets you would have to use solid rivets with a proper impact riveter and dolly, a bit to much trouble to use in such a situation and takes a bit of practice.
