    Cool Airflow snorkel installation and custom air intake - my way!!!

    Airflow snorkels can be a pain to install in a Discovery, this is how I did it, and below is how I made it better with a customised air box











    Below the custom air box to fix the annoying new position of the air box. I had to do this to fit the "coming soon" LPG system and the now fitted dual battery.







    So I hope this is interesting to someone out there. Oh, and I hope that I started this thread in the right section of the forum too.

    Nice job but i think your missus will be very upset with you when she goes to fill the laundry sink in the future

    True that, but then all I'd need to do is let her know how much money we'd save on an air flow meter if it backfired on LPG ;-)

    My Safari was setup like yours, into the side of the air filter can and it was blocking up very quickly because the air flow is directed at a small area of the filter, so using some plumbing plastic fittings (90mm I.D.) I set mine up to feed the end of the filter (as original) for better air and dust distribution, see pic below, Regards Frank.

    hi guys great jobs
    where did you get the cannister filter box from?
    wouldn't mind doing this to mine as mine seems to choke a bit with a safari snorkel on.

    Jason, in my case the the filter can was standard equipment on my 93 Disco, regards Frank.

    Got the canister filter from Triumph Rover Spares in Lonsdale, SA. I think it was about $130 dollars.

    My Safari was setup like yours, into the side of the air filter can and it was blocking up very quickly because the air flow is directed at a small area of the filter, so using some plumbing plastic fittings (90mm I.D.) I set mine up to feed the end of the filter (as original) for better air and dust distribution, see pic below, Regards Frank.
    Nice work TANK, the reason I came in to the side of the canister at such a wide angle was to help prevent blockages of the air filter (use as much of the filter as possible), it has been fine so far but point noted. Your design looks very practical . It however brings the canister filter very close to the air intake and wouldn't give room to put on an LPG system. How do you change filters? Bet it gave much more power too!!

    Rangies from 86' up had the round cannister so these will be easier and cheaper to find than the disco round ones.

    I undo the MAF clips and push it back towards the Throttle Body, compressing the flexible hose, I leave the MAF attached to the hose and just set it to one side
    then I slide the canister back towards the MAF and the bottom rubber mounts come off the pins, the whole canister lifts out as shown in the photos, I undo the self tapper on top (the top clip used to touch the bonnet lining) and undo the other 2 clips, the end pops out to service the filter, you may have noticed the the windscreen washer bottle is not bolted down, it had to be moved back a bit and as the captured nuts were broken off when I unbolted it, what were L/R thinking putting metal captured nuts into plastic, dumb,, I just left it unbolted, have had no problems with it.
    I'm not sure how I would fit the LPG system in there, it's tight with the Aux. battery, Regards Frank.
