Thanks Dejay, I think i'll be right as I have purchased a SIIa 6cyl with a spare bulkhead thrown in. (Hope the spare is a 4 cyl SII - haven't really had a good look yet.) I also hope I will be able to salvage the original firewall as the only rust (that I have found!) is under the drivers windscreen.

I agree with you on the date of the rego. We had a 1969 kingswood in the "K" rego range. But using CALVIN on the ser number on the bulkhead gave me 1960 SII. (Ser 153001102 Eng RMC 22398B ). But, hey, I'm certainly not an expert! Just a punter who reads too many Land Rover mags!!:D:D

Is the red 109" the one you are talking about?

The first civilian rego may have been 1969 - however that vehicle looks like it was military, so it would have been wearing an Army Rego Number for at least 5 years before 1969.

It has to be a 1960 Series II in the years up to the Series 2a the year of manufacture is included in the car/chassis number and in your case the "0" after the "153" is the code for 1960. Another hint is the fact that there is no suffix letter which were introduced with the series IIa.

BTW - do you know when/which previous owner fitted the radio and what frequency band it operates? I may know someone who could use it to restore a 1960 Land Rover Fire Engine. (that is of course if you don't want it.)

Don't know a helluva lot about original owner..........yet. I bought KKS from Lancefield farmer who bought it as part of a farm deceased estate auction in Kilmore VIC "a couple of years back".
(I have a box full of gaskets and bits and pieces; some in envelopes addressed to original owner. I'll chase that up.)

Is there a way of finding out the history of a landy by serial/engine numbers alone?

I presume the radio is a VHF radio (based on shorter antenna in roof of about 30cm - too early for UHF) which would suggest it is CFA (Vic Country Fire Authority) which a lot of farmers/cfa volunteers have. Although I’m only guessing - it could be an amateur radio too(144 Mhz?)

I would be happy to pass it on to someone who has a use for it - no idea if it works.

Yes, I was just pointing out that KKS reg would have been 1969. My red Landie might still be out there. I sold it after 7 years & 150,000 miles. It was a 1958 sigs wagon - 24volt - yuk.

Vacuumed out the dirt on the weekend. I think the farmer who owned KKS was a chicken farmer. Cab was covered in a layer of chook ****!:eek2:

Don't you just love farmers! New bits ready for when you need them; all the replaced bits kept - just in case. New Gaskets (Gearbox and Rear end, Exhaust,) Brake parts, Indicator and Brake light lenses. Number plate light. Points, Condensers, the list goes on.
Some rather serious pieces of gearbox (Hey I'm an amateur - I don't know their names - but they look new!) It was like xmas :banana:

As an newbie I'm not exactly sure what is original and what is not.

The bits are:

1. Wooden Handle (Jack?)
2. 2 bits of water pipe carefully wrapped in hessian
3. Coach bolt and a flat bracket (??)
4. Spare wheel bracket
5. Jack (Is this authentic? Looks like the one out of our old Kingswood)
6. A piece of rope with small wooden handle (pull start????)
7. Neatly fashioned lump of wood - rounded on one side. (??)
8. Tool with bolt heads bronzed onto each end (??)
9. I know this one - crank handle.
10. Plastic tube (1inch diameter)
11. Wheel brace (I've got the rest of it in the shed)
12. Old beach towel ( :) )
13. Large bolt with square nut on end (Spare wheel ??)
14. Jack Handle

Please let me know what's what.

Great little collection you have there, it may have been a case of Gunna - bought the bits gunna get around to fitting them one day.

If you were to buy that lot on the bay you would be up for quite a bit of loot.

Looks like the collection I got with mine, still haven't fully sorted mine out. Got 3 milk crates of stuff like gaskets, bearings & little things.
Then there is the wooden box.................
