this kits has been sitting in the garage for a couple of weeks so i thought i would install it while megs was in melbourne

the kit is complete....everything you need to carry out the job. the instructions that come with the kit are spot on and very detailed

however my install didn't comes with some dramas thanks to the previous owner

1. remove the four fuses for the headlights and highbeam....what a mess, i have not had the need to remove the fuse cover in the three years that i have owned the rig, one low fuse had been modified as the fuse holder was melted so there is an extra fuse holder dangling behind the cover. when i when to remove the second high beam it was about to fail in a major way, not sure how it was even working as it was also melted, i had to chissel the fuse out

2. locate a spot for the relays, the brought the driving light upgrade kit which has two relays to be installed and it looked like two much trouble trying to drill holes into the mudguard so i mounted them on the lip that folds down from the wing top....i will take a pic when the camera arrives back in town

3. follow the instructions to a tee and you cannot go wrong. i did have a little hic-up with a wire size supplied, it was oversize and after a quick phonecall to drivesafe it was deemed the incorrect size was in my favour = less voltage drop....thanks tim, i just had to trim a few strands off

4. i ran my earth/common to the alternator and connect it to a mounting bolts, easy to get to and on the same side as the relays, the instructions suggest using one of the air-con mounting bolts

5. drivers side connection, i opted to pull the headlight out to access the plug, i have an aftermarket fuel filter fitted and there is no way of getting you hand anywhere near the plug on the back of the headlight.......how dumb are the plastic coated bolt/screws holding the cover panel around the headlights, i don't reckon they have never been off which held me up longer than required. after connecting the plug i ran the wiring across the fan shroud and it seems to sit there nicely

6. battery compartment, this was straight forward once i had sorted out the battery securing camp which had once again been modded by the previous owner and had failed. the main power wires to the relays just followed the cable going to the starter motor

7. OK after all the wires were connected and doubled checked and three out of the four fuses were replaced i went to test the install. low beam worked a treat........no high beam though. a quick phone call the drivesafe to confirm which colour wire was the highbeam trigger (thanks for pointing out the info was in the instructions which i should have read), it was confirmed that the melted fuse holder was for the left high beam which is used to trigger the highbeam. i found a piece of wire and ran it from the passenger side redundant high beam wiring to the relay.

8. woohoo i now have highbeam

9. tested it in the dark tonight and the improvement was worthwhile

10. now i need to buy a set of spotties and finish the rest of the wiring

great afterhours support and product by drivesafe....thanks tim
