Hi, spoke to my mate and it is a standard td5 turbo except for heavy duty bearings. He is on holiday until sunday but will see if I can get into his shed to get some pics.
He has done alote of engine work such as reworked combustion chambers and custom inlet manifold and a 3" exhaust so the engine breathes alote better than standard.
The exhaust manifold is a work of art, it was custom made in stainless and all the pipes are equal length.
The vehicle was built to do the dakar and has had alote of money chucked at it.

My turbo upgrade.
Hi Folks, decided to do my own TD5 turbo upgrade. Been a long term project and have done about 10k miles since fitting with no problems. Running about 18psi boost peaking at 20psi at high revs. The engine is fully balanced with a lightened flywheel and oversize ap clutch. the fuel pump has been lightly played with (by Me!) and it has a full width intercooler.
Not sure what it is putting out but pulls a lot better now, boost comes on at lower revs and seems to rev a lot easier at the top end. better on fuel now because it will hold on to the gears longer. also, it seems to run cooler now, must be the extra air flow!
already planning another turbo upgrade with a vnt possibly off a 3.0 bmw but won't be for a while!
