she has many stories including the bonnet story which i think i read you had mentioned...one year,not long after we got her i guess, dad traded the bonnet..he didn't want the wheel clamp thing and the other bloke did so they traded! goodluck finding that! as far as we are concerned the green bonnet just gave her a personality all of her own whenever id pass dad wrangling her through traffic (we worked in the same part of town) id grin at her and her funny look ha ha.

I really need to change the bonnet and a few other very minor things back. Hope you don't mind:angel:
I have know resigned to the fact I have very little chance of tracking down the old parts:( That's OK we'll reproduce them as accurately as possible.
I have picked up you called her the old girl so that will stick although I have a few here now:eek: She will be known as AYI for clarification.

I feel for all of you as 38 years is a long time and all the families memories would be attached to her. Let alone all the time your dad has put into keeping her going so well.

I intend to keep as much original as possible to retain its authentic feel.

thankyou for putting up with a bunch of softies like us! from reading all the posts here its plain that from the start she was always going to have a lovely retirement so thankyou again and yes we;d love to see her once and again...she wasnt OUR daily drive but she WAS dads right up til the day she arrived at kotara so he's pretty in tune with her. when i asked if i could have one last drive and he said not a good idea i knew she was pretty brittle or should i say cantankerous in the end so you really must have your work cut out:(

i see you are near Merriwah..in the 70's&80's we'd twice a year make the trip to Lightning Ridge to our holiday place in the opal fields so she's used to big trips to the bush!one year we were driving there & going down a hill when the bonnet unexpectedly flew up!! dad couldnt see a thing and had to pull off,head out the window:Danother trip there was a sudden fire between the front seats!!
we were born AFTER the landy in 72 which is why we had all but one year with her..
anyway hope she behaves well for you.its interesting to find where her brother is by the way.And we once visited the Leyland Bros theme park they had and one of the brothers came out and we almost had to point out what he was standing in front of.When he saw her he says"ha!its the old landy!" but no more talk! a little bit of a let down gotta admit ha ha:o

ill try get out of dad who he traded the bonnet with..

Bit or rigamortis has set in. Be OK unless you got rear ended:eek: Has to be fixed! If you want a last drive PM me and can be arranged in a very controlled environment. In respect your Dad was very sensible as she's not really roadworthy ATM.

The Ridge... Had some good friends up there that were opal miners. Sure is an amazing place to visit. Can be hot and dry though:eek:
Don't worry about the bonnet and eleco fire... Wile I was on Morton Island a 94 Defender did the same:D

That worries me a bit although I can understand why they may have reacted that way initially. I do intend to try contacting Mal but being very careful doing so.

I think you are referring to AYI 566, the table top from the Off the Beaten Track series. The one they winched across the Jardine River to drive to The Tip. Is the Jardine salt? The chassis on that one may be well gone by now.

The ones used in the West-East crossing are much earlier, the 107 wagon is in a museum. Pics are on AULRO somewhere.

She was refuring to AYI 566 may be... My bad/
I have the pics here of the 107 the Museum where AYI should be.;)
The table top is long gone...I have tried to find it infact (Or some of it), but no joy yet
I refer the 107 as being AYI's brother now as many
others do.
As far as I know these are the last two in existence:eek: Time will tell I guess:)

thanks for the offer of a drive..it would be nice but im staying out of her... i wouldnt want to risk her or my life or others!
ta also for the pics!..you are all right i was talking about 566..i thought that one was the brother:oand it was the one in the museum!

i think the leylands had alot on their mind when we half offered them their landy back for their theme park and seemed uninterested...the park closed not long after so bad timing i think.im sure in time when the death of his brother and money troubles are in the past he may like to visit his past as i imagine he has some fond memories.

we have a 93 defender.cant believe they behave like the oldies too!

Mabee you should set up a not profit orginisation and set it up like a club you could then form sub commities who could be in chage of funding, restoration and historical intrest. Im sure a lot of people would join you in your struggles and it could help you from trying to do it all yourself.
