The third book is called Leyland Brothers' Australia, I believe. I remember it from about thirty years ago so it might not be part of the series, but I think it is. It had the later trips when they didn't have the big tyres. The one I have now is Discovering Australia.

A good friend of mine has carefully made contact with Mal for me.
In respect for Mal and his family I wont post any details etc with out permission at this stage. The main thing is Mal is very interested in the fact AYI 077 has been saved and is happy to talk about her. She was in fact Mike's Landy so is a sensitive topic.
I'm about to write Mal a letter and send some photos etc.
I'm also hopeful of tracing AYI566 (Mal's Landy)or any remains of it. Will depend on the chain of contacts.
I like a lot of you am amazed how it all came to an end:( I think a lot can still be done to bring the Leylands back to light. Even if another book was produced covering their entire life to this current day in detail.
I have also been in contact with AYI 077's last owner who has done a fabulous job of keeping her as original as possible and in good mechanical condition. Seems a bit unfair refering her to being the Leyland brothers as the last owners had her for so long:( All part of her history so If they are happy I will document it all during the restoration.
Infact very little has been changed cosmetically or mechanically other than the usual wear and tear. One lay shaft in the gear box in 1976 being the only major thing to speak of other than a few GMH 186's:eek:
The bonnet was changed as the original had a well that used to collect water and conveniently drain it onto the fan with interesting results! Lots of other small details that we'll cover latter on:)

Fantastic news Tony. I am glad Mal is happy about your saving his brothers vehicle. He must have many great memories. Your right though, it all came to a sudden end in the 80's.
I think we were a little ashamed of our aussieness in the 80's. In the late 60's and 70's there were a number of Aussie naturewalkabout type shows on TV. Suddenly in the 80's we were so interested in being like America that we hid a "dorky" past and let Paul Hogan represent everything aussie.
