Thread: Old North American rail films

Here are two L-O-N-G rail videos but are of interest in their own way.

The first is a Canadian Railway film from the late 50s and the other is about Southern Pacific's Cab Forwards.

An old friend, dead now...caught the Tasmanian Government archives dumping archival footage and old newsreel films and rallied to get them to keep them. They were transferred to Carnbra and I don't know who or where but you could borrow them at postage cost. He showed weekly viewing of a short comic or silent comedy and a feature or two. I remember a series or Buster Keating movies where they showed the setting up and filming of actual trains crossing trestle bridges whilst they failed/ fell down and stunt men jumped out.

It was interesting and the listings of films available were amazing. I recall footage of storm events on earth taken on the first space flights and was amazing.

This historical material was being dumped because of the cost to store it and being lost. I wonder if it is still available as the WWW has changed things so much. He Ran the movies until 12 years ago.
